How to keep injured cat from moving to far and jumping??

My 3 year old cat is having an operation today to repair her broken pelvis. I have been told to restrict her movement for 6 weeks. How can i do that with out spending loads of money as its costing me £900 already, so could do with not dishing out anymore.

Would a travel cot work??

The vets I used to work at had a puppy crate we would lend out to people in situations like this. Might be worth a try.

I'd hesitate about a travel cot as the cat may try to get out of the top of it.

Hope she makes a good recovery.

My neighbours cat had major surgery after a road accident and had to be stopped from moving around and, more importantly, prevented him from jumping for weeks.

She borrowed a cage from the vets . It was a metal one that the cat could see out of, the other cat could come up and sniff noses through the bars with him etc so he was very much part of the home environment but he couldn't get out. He had a litter tray and food in there

Yowled like hell though for days as he desperately wanted his freedom so prepare yourself for the possibility of that.

The vets here will not lend me anything and cant find anyone with a cage to lend me!

You could maybe try Cats Protection League? They use these type of crates and might lend or rent you one. Otherwise you may just have to buy one. Maybe look for something second-hand? Poor cat, hope she recovers very soon.

My (now dead) cat had a broken pelvis. She had to live in a rabbit hutch for several weeks, which she hated but it allowed her to heal.

you need a puppy crate. try the cats protection league- they may be able to help.

My friend had this problem when her cat got hit by a car and broke his pelvis. She was unable to get a proper cage at short notice and ended up getting a guinea pig/rabbit run which worked quite well to start with. It was long enough that he didn't have to sleep near his litter tray but he couldn't run or jump about. He did manage to escape towards the end of the six weeks though, by ripping the wire up on one corner.

argos do a good crate.
it really isn't that much koney

Compared with further surgery on the pelvis- and the guilt of letting her do more harm.

Good luck !

Use the travel cot but turn it upside down, just be careful when you lift it to do food etc, maybe have someone there to "field" her is she tries to run/

Hope she is feeling better soon!

My mad cat broke his pelvis twice!!! We ended up putting him in the shower (standard size 760mm square) as there was enough room for him - on my best rug! - litter tray and food / water bowl and not much else so he could not move around.

Sounds mad, but worked really well, there was a glass door so he could see the other cats when they came to 'visit' and he saw us morning and evening and seemed happy enough.

Interestingly after the second time (in 12 months) we got him insured and it hasn't happened since ...

Thanks for all the ideas. I have brought a rabbit/puppy run, which is hexaganal and has a net roof.
Unfortunatly i live in germany so isnt so easy to do anything. Cant find one to buy with out spending a fortune. Ive tried british and german vets and they dint have anything to lend me.

But on the upside what i have at the mo is working ok, so fingers crossed she will remain the happy cat she seems at the mo for the next 5 weeks.

Hi, we have the same problem, my cat got knocked down last week and he has to do the same for 6 weeks ( broken pelvis) the best thing you could do to stop your kitty from been bored is to get a cat video called cool for cats, it keeps his mental state happy and stops the boredem, i have just received mine today off ebay, but you can get them from amazon give it a try and i hope your cat recovers well! wish you the best Suzanne xx
