new baby, old puppy

my little one is 5 weeks old and my puppy is 18 months. the pup has started bhaving quite badly and i wanted some advice. we were very careful to give her (the dog) lots of attention when the baby arrived, lots of cuddles and walks and time alone with me without the baby and initally she was being very sweet with the baby - peering into her moses basket, sitting on my lap when i was breast feeding, trying to lick/sniff the baby's head.
now we've noticed her being more snappy to strangers that try to pet her in the park, moody wiht me and dh, and once when i was breast feeding and she was sitting next to me on the sofa she snapped at the baby's head. my respoinse was to say no loudly and walk off and ignore her for a while she definitey knew she'd done wrong.
i am getting really upset and don;t know what to do about it. its strange to me that her behaviour has deteriorated as she was fine to bgein with.
any advice?? would be so grateful.

I hate to scare you but this is a potentially very dangerous situation and I would get a qualified behaviourist in to advise you asap. Your vet should be able to recommend someone and it will only cost £40 or so.

In the meantime do not leave your dog alone with the baby, even for a second.

Good luck.

I'd see the vet just to rule out any physical causes (and a behavourist will want you to do that first too). More likely to be a reaction to the baby.

As Bella says, you need a behaviourist asap, and mustn't leave them alone together even for as long as it takes to go to the loo.

I had this with my first spaniel, but he got like this once ds1 started moving around.
