We're still waiting.
Think there's only 3 days left.
What are the first signs of labour in a cat?

Awwww what a shame RIP moglet1

She probably will be too busy with the others to notice anything.

Really pleased the others are doing well. Would love to see some pics if you get chance. Glad sge's been such a fabulous mother

PurpleOne · 28/05/2009 23:33

LunaghCat hs been wandering aimlessly around, meowing and looking for the moglet1. The DDs officially named her Blotch, as she was the only black one with a white chest bib.

Been really hard this evening. Keep choking back the tears when I think of the vets words.
They said they would put her ashes in the garden of rememberance in thier pet cemetary.

The other tail less one is a boy, and we have named him Dave (League of Gentlemen fan here, and a no tail lol)

All my pics are on Facebook

Another question.....

Just how active are day old moggies supposed to be exactly?
I mean they are rolling and falling off the cushion which is great...but a couple of them are dragging themselves around and then they yell for mummy to come and get them!
They manage to get onto my fleece that I folded up and left in the nest but away from mummy IYSWIM, and 2 of them I found earlier snuggled up and cuddling each other!!!
I saw them crawl there.

Time for a new thread soon!

'help,I'm weaning' or 'help, need litterbox training advice'!!!

Love the name dave also a league of gentlemen fan too. They're fantastic live
Anyhow, back to the question in hand. If i remember rightly they are fairly active straight away. Our pups are the same. I think with all animals ie cats/dogs their rate of growth is so fast. they seem to do everything so quickly. It wont be long before the weening, litter training etc
Keep us posted

I found mine slept alot for the first few days, it's hard work being born

I'm sad for poor Moglet1 but it was the right thing to do

differant litters behave differantly.

even from the same cat we've had litters that didn't do much for weeks (and are now slowly dismantling my house) and litters that did alot of moving right away.

my grandmothers cat did that with her litter too, first litter as well and she chewed the tail of one, broke the others tail and 2 were killed (my grandmorther didn't find them til days later so we never did know if the over enthusiastic chomping was what did them in too. the tailless one was the sweetest cat you ever met though, we took both of them from her and he was the cuddliest cat ever.

my current female also had difficulty with the umbilicals this time... when she took to swinging a little black one around by the umbilical though i had to step in and snip it for her, sadly i think she did too much damage by that point, he was never as healthy as the others and at 5 weeks stopped feeding altogether and died.

good luck with them, they'll drive you mad and make you laugh in equal measures

Ok thanks for all that advice of diff litters etc, much appreciated.

LCat has been out today for some fresh air and a lie down in the sun. Moglets are doing just fine, although when I went to wash Dave's tail earlier, I noticed yellow gunk on the cotton wool. His behind doesn't smell yet and am gonna buy a bottle of iodine tomorrow...desperate not to let it get infected.
LCat has done nothing but whinge and meow all damn day, except when she's feeding. It's like she's trying to say something, but she's weeing and pooing ok, drinking her cat milk and water just fine, and eating tons of kitten food...so why is she whinging at me all day?
She knows about her baby doesn't she? Or is she trying to tell me about Dave?

Or is she just letting me know she's a mother now?

Hmm, might sound weird, but would LCat let you squeeze a little milk out to use to bathe Dave's tail?

I am guessing it will have antibodies in it.

PinkTulips · 30/05/2009 22:24

mild sea salt solution is fab for cleaning wounds if milking her doesn't work, my cat was willing when i needed milk for her kitten but i couldn't get any out. i've used sea salt water on millions of cat absesss and gunky eyes though and it's always worked a treat.

i'd be surprised if she's even noticed about the kitten tbh, they don't usually.

PurpleOne · 31/05/2009 00:57

How mild do you mean Pinktulips?

The vet said just a few grains.

I really apologise for all the questions. All my other cats have been boys!
Thanks again everyone, for your patience and endless advice. It is so much appreciated.

i use about a quarter of a teaspoon in a mug of boiling water, then leave it to cool but use it while it's still warm.

use a fresh piece of cotton wool for each swipe and never reuse the water for another cleaning, always make fresh.

how's he doing today?

PurpleOne · 02/06/2009 01:48

Well she won't let me milk her, but Dave in himslef is doing just fine. I change the salt water every day and have a huge pile of cotton wool pads. Still finding a bit of yellow and red on the swabs, but Dave in himself is feeding ok and rolling around.
Going to try and sex them all tomorrow. LCat is on the move, so we could line them all up while she isn't looking!

The 2 little tabbies are so cute, and the blacks do this little 'mouth open and panting' thing...like they're trying to say something but it sounds like they're hissing!
Time for a clean out of the nest tomorrow and a change of towels and shake the cushion off.

And I found some poo too, so all is well in the LCat household.
