Border terrier and guinea pig?

Am thinking hard about getting a little dog, maybe a terrier. Have a gp who is out in a run in the summer. Is this likely to be a problem?

Thanks

Yes, can be a real problem unless you are very careful. The dog is very likely to spend a lot of time sitting by the gp's run licking its lips. A friend of mine has gps and a border terrier cross and the other day the gp was dropped accidentally and the dog had it for supper. It is in their nature to chase small animals. However, I have a border terrier and I think they are wonderful dogs.

I thought as much. Poor old gp is 7 and not ready for that. Will wait until nature takes its course before deciding then. How awful for your friend.

Not a good idea IMO. Terriers instincts are to hunt out small rodents so possibly the worst possible choice of animal to get if you have a guinea.

To be honest, if you do not understand the basic instincts of a terrier getting a dog would be a bit foolish.

Don't do it. terriers are bred to catch small animals.

Agree totally, lost one guinea to terrier - lab couldn't care less, but the terrier watched the cage like a bloke in front of match of the day!

If your g-p is 7 nature should take it's course quite soon.

Nearly lost our Guinea pig to our Greyhound! I think he was attracted to the little squeaking noises it makes.
He is ok with it in the hutch but not the run.(And we have a rabbit!)
