Labradoodles

Does anyone here have a labradoodle? Would you recommend them for someone with an allergy to pet fur?

My mil says that they may or may not be non-moulting, it is not guaranteed.

I think (but not sure) that your mil is right. Our neighbours have one and they have one person with mild allergy - and it's been fine. some info here. doesn't mention labradoodles as they're not, strictly speaking, a breed.

Why not a standard poodle - def no moulting, fab personalities, very intelligent and easy to train. And it isn't compulory to have the naff poodle haircut.

Thanks for the link hatwoman.

daisybaby, I had considered standard poodle as my mil has three and we are fine with them. I really like the labradoodles but not sure how they would compare to a standard poodle.

We have a labradoodle. She is fab. Bonkers but fab.

She is not an hypo-allergenic doodle - she is just a straight lab/poodle cross - an FI. What you will be after is an F2 - an F1 crossed back with a poodle.

Standard labradoodles are also known as labradonkeys due to size and general gangliness! If you want something more compact then get a doodle crossed with a smaller poodle.

Possibilities are endless....

Wow - didn't realise there were so many types! I am a dog novice really.

Off to do some research......

There is a very good labradoodle website somewhere but don't be put off by the pictures of doodles with devil ears...

Ours is the sweetest thing and this week has learnt to swim. We are all very proud of her.

IME chocolate doodles are like chocolate labs - on a 'seefood' diet!

Can I ask you what sort of price you would expect to pay for one? I had a quick look at a couple of breeders websites and the prices seem to vary quite a bit.

I guess it's dependent on which 'mix' they are?

I didn;t say - our neighbour's labradoodle is gorgeous. totally soft and gentle but up for a really good romp and a play when out on walks. great with kids. she's lovely-looking too, in an adorable scruff-pot way.

Our doodle - not hypo-allergenic more mutt - was £500.

She loves playing, loves the children and is always very gentle around other children, very loving and easy going. The vet says she is really lovely - we gently pull her tail and tie up her ears to get her used to being pestered. She never growls and only barks when she wants to come into the house (or be fed and she thinks we might have forgotten!). Needs a fair amount of exercise 1hr + 40 mins plus long romps at weekends. Has slight kangaroo qualities. The garden fence is an escape from Colditz challenge and she has dug up quite a bit of garden.

We have a labradonkey - she is 7 months and is huge - as for the moulting - well lets just say DH and I often joke that we could knit a cardi with what we hoover up on a dialy basis. But she hasn't aggravated DDs asthma so that a good thing.

Freddie - our one, is black and scruffy but not curly, she is very gentle with the kids and hasn't ever done anything too dreadful, not dug up much - wee a couple of small patches on the lawn - never chewed anything either and has been easy to train to come back to us when out and off of her lead. Oh and we have trained her to wee and poo in one timy area of the garden away from the grass where the kids play.

Ours was £380 but she was the last one left in the litter and they wanted rid of her I think.

The kangaroo comment is right though - she still looks like she has borrowed someone elses legs!

They are the best dogs in the world!

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/04/2009 17:35

2 friends have ladradoodles

they are cute but kinda funny looking - werid how seem to be more of a labrador with wavy hair size rather than small poddle with striaght fur

friends one is 2yrs old but looks about 200 as has a shaggy beard and wiskers

I've just got a Cockerpoo, which is a cross between a cocker spaniel and a poodle. It's low shedding but as with all cross breeds, you may or may not get the non shedding part of the poodle.
A cockerpoo is a smaller version of a labradoodle and ideal with very young children.
