WWYD? What to do about rabbit

Around 5 weeks ago we took in a rescued rabbit- he had been continually beaten by all the other bucks in a 'pets corner' type place of a large park. Anyway, apart from the facial scarring, he has pretty much healed.

However, on one part of his flank, he had developed an absess- the vet said he needs an operation, which will cost around £160, which is a bit of a worry as things are really tight.
Apparently the absess will just grow and slowly kill him if we don't get it treated.

Thing is, the rabbit gets on with the guinea pigs, is fully house trained, just hops around, and has basically been clasped into the hearts of my 3 children.

i think we may have to pay for the op- any similar stories or advice please?

I would have to pay the money I'm afraid - I couldn't let it suffer. Vet bills are part of owning animals aren't they?

Can you get a 2nd opinion / quote? Some vets are cheaper than others. Or maybe they'll let you pay in instalments?

Thanks- yeah you're right, we'll have to pay- This vets practise is reasonable, but yep, that's sorted really- just typing it out made me realise we have to do it.

Thanks!

That's good! Didn't mean to sound harsh!

jeminthecity · 30/04/2009 11:01

You weren't harsh! Its true though, its part of the responsibility.

If you are genuinely hard up the Blue Cross and other animal charities will help you.

Thanks, I will look into that Marmaduke
