I need advice. My idiotic P has 2 staffies, boy and girl, and the girl is obviously pregnant. I never wanted to breed her, so much can go wrong but he refused to do spaying or neutering (sorry if terms are wrong,am a beginner with dogs). Now I'm really scared. What do I need to do for her in preparation? How are we going to find loving homes? It will be left to me, I just know it, because he's so irresponsible!!!
I just want to do the best I can for her, please help me

Can you take her to the vet? It would be wise to have her checked over and they'll be able to give you lots of advice?

I am trying to drill it into P's head but at the moment he's talking about phantom pregancies! If he won't go I'll take her myself, but he will probably go when he has time to think it through properly. I think when we do look for homes we'll have to insist on families only, especially for this type of breed. Unfortunately, especially in my area, people get these dogs to fight them and if the dogs can't fight they are used as bait. Sorry if that upsets anyone, just trying to get across how annoyed I am at P. Thanks for your reply.

Best of luck - you're obviously dealing with a very difficult situation.

Keep us posted.

ring one of the local animal welfare societies about homing the puppies - they usually carry out extensive checks

Thanks will definetely do that, that would really put my mind at rest, knowing there was no room for error.

Our staffie escaped our garden 6 weeks after her season and we didn't find out she was pregnant until she was about 5 weeks!!
We had a quiet birthing box ready but she had the 1st one in the kitchen with the help from our other dog . She went on to have 5 more and was a fabulous mum. I didn't want money for the pups but wouldn't give them away due to idiots taking them. I vetted every owner over the phone first, then invited them over several times with their families etc... Also took and verified home addresses (we visited them in their home too!) Some potential owners were unwilling so they didn't get a chance to have one.
We still keep in contact with all of the pups owners 2 years down the line

Have fun but be prepared for more mess for 6-8 weeks than you have ever imagined!!!!!

Also please keep them for a minimum of 8 weeks.
Worm and de plea her now before the puppies come, there are some worm and flea treatment suitable for pregnabt dogs.

Thanks magnolia, have her booked in for the vets tuesday. I will also be making sure the pups go to families and will tell new owners if they have any problems to bring the dog back rather than selling on. This is the thing with giving pets away especially where I live people will go straight out and sell them as fighting dogs! As for the mess, P will be getting some rubber gloves and an apron asap
