Daft kitten keeps knocking scab off...

.. and it's driving me and him batty. He was neutured before Easter, healing nicely and started going out which he loved, but then we noticed blood and he'd obviously knocked the teeny remaining scab off. We took him to the vet who gave us a collar to stop him scratching it, plus a course of antibiotics. Vet said keep collar on until it's scabbed over, then it'll be fine, but we're now on the third attempt, as every time he then knocks the scab off again. He's even done it with the collar on. Anybody had this/ got any ideas?

How odd! I have just been looking for solution to this exact thing
My moggy also scratching at wound which was healing lovely and now she's aggrevating. collar also useless cos she's scratching at it not biting etc.
I found claw covers which I'm going to try. will try and find link here
Hoping that with those on scratching at herself won't do any damage and allow it to heal over properly

Glad I'm not alone UtBW. I explained badly, but our collar is to stop him licking. He looks like he's got an Easter Bonnet on and hates it. Never seen a cat sulk before now..

So he's licking at it and not scratching? If you get a lampshade collar for him surely he shouldn't be able to reach it? That may be what you need, and keep it on until it's totally healed

That's what he's got - looks very sweet, but he's still managed to knock the scab off it once even with it on. Also the first time he knocked the scab off was 10 days after the op, so it was easily healed. He's obsessed with licking it, so we're in a vicious circle. Poor beastie looks so mightily fed up, I wish I could just stick a plaster over it..

Wow, he must be pretty determined and V bendy to reach it even with the lampshade on!
Not sure what else you can do other than covering it, and if he's obsessing with it, i imagine anything you cover it with would be gotton off pretty quickly!
I would probably just go back to vet and explain the collar isn't working and see what they suggest?

Just had a thought, I had a friend whose cat had bad skin condition and was making it worse by scratching and they put a baby vest on him to stop him hurting himself with the scratching until it healed! He looked very stupid of course but it worked
Might be worth a try.

I'd thought of a small pair of pants, so was on similar lines..! I think he'd have them off in a shot though - a babygro too. I'll have to call the vet I think. Thanks though. Hope your kitty's better soon.

Our puppy had the same problem and I put a shortie sleepsuit on her. Worked fine and stopped her scratching.
