It's like having children with none of the rewards

You have to pick up their crap
They BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK
Your house stinks
Your car is ruined
They BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK
They are stupid
They smell bad when they are wet
They BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK WHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE

what is the point exactly

OracleInaCoracle · 15/04/2009 10:07

and at least a dog doesn't pester you constantly for star wars toys

"It's like having children with none of the rewards"

What are these "rewards" of which you speak?

sweetkitty · 15/04/2009 10:15

I grew up with two dogs so know the good points as well as the bad.

Next door's dog doesn't BARK it fecking HOWLS for hours at a time, HOWL HOWL HOWL like a wolf. It's in a kennel outside HOWLING all fecking day. It's like a wolk HOWL HOWL HOWL.

Detest the pavement dog shit thing as well

Katisha · 15/04/2009 10:17

Dogs I can see the point of.
But cats? Nope. They don't do anything, you can't take them for walks, they just shed hair, terrorise birds and ignore you.

sweetkitty · 15/04/2009 10:18

I have 3 cats and yes I don't see the point of them either

daftpunk · 15/04/2009 10:20

every person i know who has a dog..their house stinks.

i love dogs but i'd never have one in the house.

echt · 15/04/2009 10:50

My house doesn't stink, but I think this must be down to hoovering regularly; having a non-sheddy dog who doesn't smell when wet, though this may be because he swims in the sea several times a week, and the clincher is he sleeps in a kennel outside at night, and is in his own garden run when we're at work.

I'm not really a dog person, but I do get the point about their untrammelled joyfulness. The glass is always full to the brim with them.

echt · 15/04/2009 10:52

Oh, and he only barks at possums and the workmen on my neighbours' roof, who pointed out that he was only doing his job.

mistlethrush · 15/04/2009 10:54

Ruin the car? Ds has taken care of that - at least the dog has been trained not to go into the worst of the mud - and is much better at obeying instructions like 'no' or 'don't go in that' - and she's also not car sick....

Whine whine whine - that's ds again for you sometimes... and certainly on an average day he makes much more noise than the dog!

daftpunk · 15/04/2009 10:57

re; the smell thing...dog owners become accustomed to it, other people can smell it.

OrmIrian · 15/04/2009 11:02

Dogs are always pleased to see you. They don't greet you after a long day at work with the words 'muuummmmm can i have X' or bicker and start thumping other people as you walk through the door.

They eat cheap food from a tin and don't turn their noses up at anything.

They keep themselves entertained.

They are very cheap compared to kids.

They don't cost you a fortune and all your blood, sweat and tears for 18yrs, and then bugger off to university and never come home again.

They don't spend their adult years telling everyone how irritating their parents are and how miserable their childhood was (and yes, all children do that at some time).

And if you think dogs make a mess you should see my (dog-free) house after 12 yrs of parenting.

tengreenbottles · 15/04/2009 15:22

they never ever ever ask me whats for tea the minute i walk through the door from work !!!!
