Any vets around?

Our dog was spayed on Wednesday. I was given a spray, Topic Pump Spray from Vetoqyinol to spray on her wound 3x daily, to disinfect and stop her licking the wound.

It is obviously very painful for her, she wriggles about fir ages afterwards and is very upset. She is hiding in the kitchen now.

Should I keep using it? If I stop using it how do I stop her licking the wound?

She was also given Metacam drops as pain relief. How long do I give her them?

My vet is off for the weekend, I don't know if I can reach him before Tuesday.

She is now running around the garden like a wild thing trying to escape the pain.

I feel so horrible. Not spraying the stuff on her again

what had she done?

Try ringing your vet tomorrow. One of my cats has cut his leg open (noticed this afternoon) and I rang the vet in desperation. They were only open today for emergencies which this is not, but they are open for a normal clinic tomorrow and we are going then. You might find your vets is open tomorrow too.

Did the vet not give you a 'lampshade' for her to wear? To prevent her from licking the wound.

I've never heard of the spray but I'd stop and get to the vets tomorrow - is the vet not open tomorrow?

Pain relief, I think its usually 6-7 days.

Will check the vet tomorrow.

We did not get a lampshade but will get one somewhere

She is hiding under a bush in the garden.

Managed to get her into the house and have given her the painkiller.

Thanks for the advice, will see if I can get ahold of the vet tomorrow.

the vet willnot mind being rung for advice ooh

I would ring now if you are concerned it is perfectly acceptable after an op and better now than when it is too late

never heard of the spray bit as another poster said a buster collar would be a good idea

Wounds shouldn't require this sort of treatment. So long as the dog is not licking and not over active things should be just fine. Don't use the spray any more. If the wound looks inflammed or swollen then the dog should see the vet for a check, or if for any reasons you have any other concerns.
