Speak to me about syringomyelia?

Hey,
My little dog is 1 year old. She is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
We were given her as a pup of 10 weeks old last May, from an elderly couple who had rescued her from Ireland, because their son was building a wall for some people who were going to drown her. They couldn't keep her but knew i knew about the breed because we have 2 other kcs one 7 and one 6, both with my parents. Neither with any health problems so far.
Anyway, getting to the point. She had been really scratching like mad around her ears and head and crying really loudly. Also lying on her back and chewing her feet. I thought maybe she had caught fleas, but she always wears a flea collar, i treated her anyway and couldn't find anything. She sometimes gets knots in her ears or things stuck in them because they are so long, but there is nothing there to cause her any pain.
Does anyone have any experiance of syringomyelia, because i am really worried and know these are symptoms.
I have a doctors appointment today and they an am taking her to see our vet, but would like to be a bit prepared for the worst. If anyone has any info, i would be so greatful.

Have you been yet, PrammyMammy?

Noo, i'm scared though. No one on here has anything to say. I have combed her thoroughly and took her for a trim today and there is not a flea in sight though. [heartbrokenface]

Don't know enough to advise you but even if it is that (and let's hope it isn't) it's best to know.

Please keep us posted x

How did you get on, PrammyMammy?

There are lots of possible reasons for this - ear disease/skin disease being high on the list of reasons. Cavaliers can get a primary middle ear problem too where pressure builds up, but no infection seen, though this is not a terribly common problem. Syringomyelia while possible in this breed does come lower down the least of likely reasons for the symptoms you are seeing.
Hopefully the vet can give you more information when they have seen her and if necessary arranged for tests to be undertaken to help with the diagnosis.
