Do guinea pigs destroy garden plants like rabbits?

That is it really! I am currently weighing up the pros and cons of each. I have had both, but had the guinea pigs when I was very young and we never let them have the run of the garden as there were far to many places to lose them.

I now have a small and completely fenced in garden, which would be ideal for either to run around in, but I am not keen on having all the plants in my garden decimated rabbit style and was wondering if guinea pigs are a bit less destructive?

I don't think they would be destructive but check for plants that are poisonous to them and also they may become prey for the neighbourhood cats...........they may be better off in a run that you can move around for most of the time.

I suppose they would eat some things but don't forget they cannot jump up onto pots and tubs like rabbits can, and they don't dig holes everywhere and uproot your plants at the same time.

Thanks, I have very established plants such as wisteria and ivy which are supposed to be toxic - although different websites seem to disagree on which parts just to confuse things!

These are plants that I really can't move, without destroying two entire fences - and I'm not really up for the cost of new fences at the moment.

I just wanted to give them a bit more freedom than a run - but think that I will probably just have to stick with the run.
