I don't know whether he has blockage or not. He has swallowed a sock ! and usually he regurgetates it after a while but I havn't seen it yet but that doesn't mean he hasn't. He is pooing and weeing normally and he eats but he is licking himself all over a lot. Sorry but don't know if any of that is linked or relevant, but before I ring a vet and spend some money I'd like to know what it might be. If anyone knows or could refer me to a site or something I would be grateful. Ta!

Is it clear yellow liquid?
My dog vomits this up if he has something indigestible in his stomach. His stomach goes into 'digestion overdrive' and starts producing masses of bile. Which then irritate his stomach so he throws up. It may be the sock irritating him, or he may have brought the sock back up unbeknown to you but a few fibres/threads are left behind and are irritating.

Just read the bit about licking - where is he licking, his tummy area? If so that may suggest discomfort and the sock may be stuck.

beautifulgirls · 19/03/2009 16:48

It does not mean things are necessarily good or bad - it is simply bile stained fluid.

If he is repeatedly throwing up with a history of having eaten a sock then you need to get him to a vet asap. There is a risk with obstructions that are left untreated that things may become a lot worse with time and can in severe case become life threatening. If you are in any doubt I urge you to see your vet.

blossombelle · 19/03/2009 16:51

ditto beautiful girls

cheaper to have him checked out now than at a later stage when his condition has potentially deteriorated

hope hes ok

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/03/2009 17:29

agree go to the vet

and hide socks from him next time

Nabster · 19/03/2009 17:33

When my cat had yellow vomit it was because she had chewed some daffodils.

I think if he has definitely eaten a sock, and it hasn't come out either end, he needs a trip to the vet.

have you got insurance?

Lawks · 19/03/2009 17:34

I think you need a vet to give his tummy a really thorough groping to check for blockages.

StercusAccidit · 19/03/2009 17:35

My dog had yellow vomit
Tosser had eaten two blocks of butter

Take dog to the vet (overpriced tossers that they are) just to check nothing is stuck

wotulookinat · 19/03/2009 17:37

I would think he is in pain - he is trying to soothe the pain with the licking. The yellow vomit is probably bile - he's trying to get the sock up but can't. I would get him to the vet if I were you - ASAP.

Lawks · 19/03/2009 17:44

My dog vomited bright yellow bile all the time until we diagnosed a wheat intollerance.

mamas12 · 19/03/2009 21:43

Thank you for all your replies. I hope it is a wheat intoleralnce before the stuck sock scenario. He is a nightmare with them! Looks like a trip to the vets tommorrow.
btw after our walk this gorgeous day he only got stung by stinging nettles and now his two front pads are all red and swollen now. I don;t thinks it's his day and now am waiting for the 'third' thing now. eek.

you could train him not to eat the socks! It's not difficult to do

My mum's dog is funny - she'll carry the socks in her mouth to us (or any other item for that matter) as a tool for greeting us... she brings her bed, jumpers, underwear from by the washing machine - all sorts!! Never actually eats them though!

mamas12 · 20/03/2009 12:25

okay lewis how do I train him then. He is a well behaved dog really it's just the socks and knicks if I'm honest, oh and maybe a little jumping up with visitors. But apart from that getting him was THE best thing to do after divorce for the dcs and me and he's gorgeous.

lol my mums old dog was sick yellow once. I thought it was a burst balloon on her floor and went to pick it up - obviously my fingers went right through it and i was covered in slime. it was gross!

Alambil · 21/03/2009 02:06

mamas12 I didn't mean to insinuate he isn't a good dog - just eating socks can be very dangerous (loose threads can wrap around intestines and lord knows what else....)

If I were you, each time he goes to the socks I'd yell NO! in a style similar to a "omg DS is running into the road and I must stop him" no. Repeat every time dog goes towards somethng he's not allowed.... he'll soon realise that to avoid such items is beneficial because he gets praised

Be black and white about it - black; mean and horrid sounding when he goes there, white; praising, happy and friendly when he doesn't

won't take long for him to prefer the white side of you

If you aren't present when he does it, take him to wherever it was - put a stunt sock down if the evidence has disappeared and do the above. Dogs DO remember what they've done... repeat taking him to stunt sock once an hour 4 or 5 times to reiterate and he'll learn that it really isn't a good idea to eat socks!

Just think of the vet bill prevention - not to mention the sick you won't have to clean up

mamas12 · 21/03/2009 12:26

Love the stunt sock image Im going to adopt taht one straight away. Don't worry I wasn't offended just making sure my dog was ok really.
