Cats in season

Our 10 month old mog came into call last Sunday night.
It's been a week now, and although she isn't rolling around and being vocal at night - she is still putting her bum up in the air, so I assume she is still 'in heat'.

How long does the average call last for?

I am planning on getting her spayed soon. Have the carrier and just waiting on HB confirmation letter to come through for the PDSA.

Think my cat is usually around 5-6 days. I'm not sure, I spend most of it trying to get her away from my feet

Just want it over with lol. Everywhere I look, she is there.
And treating my dining room windowsill like a brothel, parading her behind inside the glass to 4 sets of beady eyed tom cats sat on my garden table.

My cat just keeps crouching in front of anyone/anything that she thinks will hump her. It drives me to distraction and the NOISE is unbelievable. I really need to get her neutered asap.

My kitty is doing the same - she's desperate and it's pathetic. The irony is that we do want kittens from her, but there don't seem to be any gentlemen around here able to oblige - any old tom will do for us! We live in a rural area, but all the boys here are neutered so the poor thing is going mad. Have decided tho' that if nothing happens from this current session we will neuter her as it's not very good for her.

Oh FFS!

DD1 opened the window and was 'tormenting' the cat.
She didn't close the window in time, and the cat shot out. Followed her down the road, trying to tempt her back in with some chicken...but alas.

Went to supermarket earlier, and saw LunaghCat in neighbours garden, rolling around and fadge licking. There was another tabby sitting on the garage roof watching her.

Think there's a pretty high chance that the tabby has 'caught' her and LunaghCat will come home pregnant.

Bugger!

Awwwww nightmare. She is still young to have a litter but our other cat had a litter at a year old and coped fantastically with them.

Your vet will still neuter her if she's pregnant by the way - as long as you're okay with the idea of cat abortion!

I'm not sure about that, as when I spoke to PDSA a few days ago, they told me to wait until she'd finished calling, then bring her in as soon as I got the confirmation letter from the HB office. I know they said something about letting her hormones settle down first.
Not sure I like the idea of 'mog abortion' either. The DCs knew she was in heat as I'd left notes stuck to LunaghCat's point of entry (front door and diningroom window) specifying to NOT let her out. They will be most upset knowing that mummy killed the kitties.

BCB - when you cat had a litter, how much did it cost financially to raise them? This is my main concern.

They wouldn't know if you didn't tell them? Although I can understand your feelings.

Costwise it wasn't much, our cat ate a lot more than usual while she was pregnant and nursing but I buy our cat food in wholesale sacks so I didn't really notice a cost increase. Obviously we had to buy another couple of litter trays so she could train the kittens, and we handed over what was then the toyroom to her and the kittens until they were 3-4 weeks old so that they didn't end up all over the house. We had five kittens, one died after birth and we asked everyone who took a kitten to put £15 towards our cat's neutering fees which also weeded out the folk who wouldn't have been great kitty parents.

If you've got the patience for it, having a litter of kittens is actually a really nice thing for a family to experience. My kids really loved it and spent hours playing with and socialising the kittens. Just make sure you've got homes lined up!

Please do consider having her spayed. 10 months is too young to have kittens - even if she 'copes' she will be diverting her much needed energy and resources from her growing body into her kittens, and she may never develop properly as a result.

Plus there are far too many unwanted kittens already.
