Hi benbon. I am sorry to hear about your bitch.

Pyometra is indeed a nasty condition and if it is diagnosed then having her spayed is absolutely the right thing to do. The operation is quite routine in that it is the same as the neutering operationg and so is very commonly performed and will be familiar to the vet dealing with her. There are some extra risks because of the condition but the success rate is generally high. In a young and otherwise healthy dog there is every likelihood she will recover from this.

On the day she will possibly have another blood sample, she will be put on a drip and then she will have the surgery. She may or may not be kept in overnight. You will need to make sure she gets plenty of rest when she comes home and she will have to stay on her lead for a couple of weeks. She will also probably be given antibiotic tablets to take.

In the meantime, in spite of her being seen again on Monday, please do not wait if she deteriorates over the weekend - phone and then take her back to the vet.

HTH and good luck
