What can you do for a cat with dandruff?

I don't think Head and Shoulders is really appropriate...

Does anyone have any experience of this? Our cat is getting on a bit and has been dandruffy in the past, but it's usually cleared up with a bit of a comb. At the moment it's terrible and we get covered in flakes every time we stroke him. It doesn't seem serious enough for a vet visit (please no, don't need the bills) but I can't leave it as it is.

If you're sure it's not flea dirt (which turns reddish brown when combed on to a moist paper towel) then I would look at his diet as I would be thinking dry skin therefore needs more oils in diet, iyswim.

You can get bottles of cod liver oil from pet shops, which you add to their food, I think a teaspoon once a day might help with the problem and your cat will get shiny fur! Might also be good for his joints, too, as he is older.

Thanks. I'll give the cod liver oil a go. I just hope he likes it.
