We are getting a puppy at the end of April.
We are getting her microchipped and full vaccinations. I am calling in at the vets on Wednesday, to make all the arrangements in the meantime does anyone know around about how much this will cost? (money isn't an issue) thank you

I can't remember but don't expect much (if any) change out of £100 - the jabs will come in two lots (one at 8 and the other at 12 weeks)

you'll also need worming tablets and flea prevention, probably

My breeder microchipped my older dog, cost £15, vets did my younger dog for £19. Standard vaccines cost about £40, but we also did kennel cough and most kennels will want to see that, think that was about £25. I think vets vary depending where you are though, we go to a good reasonable surgery in the South West, they are cheaper than some around, originally chosen by reputation but we've been with them over 10 yrs now. they will tell you about worming and flea treatment, neither is v expensive. Worth getting their recommendation for a training class too. And don't forget insurance! My dogs injections were one at 8wks & one at 10wks.

our puppy has just had her second jab.

I think the 2 jabs were £56

I also got her 3 months supply of frontline (flea and worm treatment) that cost £18

Blimey, no change out of £100 where do you people live????

Here microchipping is free from the PDSA a scheme run by the local council.

Jabs depend on the siz of the dog but my vets charge about £15 per jab for puppies.

Flea stuff and worming tablets bump the cost up a lot though. For me to do my two cats and my puppy it's £75 but thats for 6 months. One puppy would be much cheaper. Probably about £25.

My puppy had her 2nd lots of vaccinations on Saturday. Also, had her microchipped, kennel cough vaccine, wormed & flea treatment. Plus got 3 months box of flea treatment.

It came to £90.I thought that was fine - forgot to pick up breakdown of costs receipt so not sure what the individual costs were. Plus the new vet was lovely - she tolerated my overexcited girls very well!

Thank you all,
finished work earlier than expected so called in at vets, each injection will cost £27 and micro chipping £23.00. (didn't discuss flea treatment or worming)
Am looking at insurance which covers the dog for life rather than what seems to be on offer between 5 and 7 years. Have quotes from AXA and M &S who 'Which' recommends, she does come with 6 weeks free insurance from the Kennel Club so will see if it is any cheaper that the other two, for the same cover.
We are looking to buy a 'crate' to train her in at night and will take this down with a soft collar lead and bedding in two weeks time then hopefully, when we pick her up at 9 (3.5 weeks later) she will be used to them or at least familiar with them.
ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS WILL BE GRATEFULLY RECEIVED!

I've crate trained both my dogs and they took to it pretty well, although the first week away from the litter is hard work. A few tips my breeder gave me when you get a crate; get one with a metal base, some will chew plastic ones. Get one with two latches on the door as some dogs can squeeze their paws through if theres only one latch. Have plenty of spare bedding for accidents.
What sort are you getting, have you chosen a name yet?

bella29 · 11/03/2009 13:57

You can give the breeder an old towel or similar which they can put in the nest with the bitch and puppies. That way you can take it home with the puppy and they will have something familiar smelling to help them settle.

Crates are fab - my older dog often tries to sneak in to my pup's crate for a snooze. It also means you can pop out/go to bed/whatever and you know puppy isn't chewing through the electrics or similar.
