We had a home check for our cat and our guinea pigs. A very nice lady came and checked we lived where we said we did and looked at the garden and just chatted about care etc. We then had a "surprise" visit about a month later to check on the animals.
Hope that helps.

Depends when they have a volunteer free to come round. Guinea pigs about a week, the cat a little longer. We were then given a date and time to collect them. We are so happy to be able to give them a great home after the bad start they all had. Hope you get your cat ok.

they didn't come to our house before but I have had cats all my life and we live in a nice, quiet road.

They checked up about 2 months after with a suprise visit. Cat was outside having a lovely time in the sun

We didn't have a house check but I'd had cats at my parents' house so could answer their questions. They phoned after a few weeks to check how things were going.
The kittens were too young to be neutered but they provided a voucher for a local vets and then checked with the vets that we'd got them neutered.

i recently had a home check, by a volunteer who checks for a local pet rescue.
Find out what their critiria are, how far along with the adoption are you?

They looked for secure garden ( as secure as can be, seeing as cats can jump!) and that we were normal loving people who had the cat's best interests at heart.

At £65 I shuold think we did have!!

I used to be an RSPCA homechecker.

It works like this...you go in and chose an animal and put your name down as 'reserved pending homecheck' an animal can have up to 3 families lined up if they are popular! You fill in forms at the rescue centre re your family.

The paperwork is sent/faxed (probably emailed now, but I've been out of it a few years) to homechecker who will call you to arrange an appt.

In my case I got most faxes on a Mon (folk been in at weekends to look) and would try to get through them by Frid. I would then call the rehoming centre to 'reprt' yes or no, or 'no until they have erected a higher fence etc (dogs not cats).

You can pick animal up soon after.

Good luck with your homecheck.

didn't have homecheck or a spot visit, although was warned to expect one.

they did ask a whole sheaf of questions regarding our homelife and the hours we worked, what sort of house it was and what sort of outdoor area there was, etc, etc.

good luck
