HOME NEEDED FOR 2 YOUNG CATS

Unfortunately our cats have to go. They are both gorgeous and I hate to let them go but already this morning we've had one dead mouse, one live shrew lots of tears and a big fight - all before 9am!!

The thing is it's not their fault and they're only doing what cats do but i've got a 10 moth crawling around and I'm scared he finds something we have missed. Plus this morning i had dd crying because she couldn't understand why she wasn't allowed to go and see the cat and there was some poor little animal shrieking and screaming for its life.

One is tortoishell and is the friendliest cat you could ever meet. She is dd's and will put up with any amount of picking up, throwing around, pulling - you name it. she's superb. The other is black and white and also v friendly but a bit timid since she got hit by a car a while back and had to have an operation on her hip. But she's also lovely and loves to bury herself under your chin for a cuddle!!

Saffie was 2 on 1st April, Zephyr will be 2 on 24th may.

They have to stay together, they dont like being apart at all.

Eeew. Only one of our cats is the hunter type. I hide a felt, wool-stuffed mouse sprayed in catnip around the flat to indulge her instinct. The other is an elderly Persian found as a stray who can hardly be bothered to shift his lazy arse off the couch. Except to grouse at us for food, of course.

Hope you havent been put off Lolasmum!!

They might grow out of it - our cats were mass murderers until they were about three, then stopped bothering. Sounds stupid, but have they got bells on their collars? Also, are you sure it a Tom cat spraying? We thought another cat was getting in until we found the decomposing frogs under the sofa/behind the washing machine/under the cooker etc...

Lonelymum · 15/04/2005 21:46

Swiperfox, are the cats spayed? If they are, they shouldn't be attracting tom cats. I would love them, but I am still trying to work out if we can have cats now that ds2 has been diagnosed with asthma.

swiperfox · 15/04/2005 21:54

Hiya - they are both spayed but there is a big old tomcat coming in for sure. He sits and looks at us as if its his house!! So not sure if its him spraying or our two being scared and territorial

Swiperfox, I was in this situation a coupl eof months ago with my now 14mo. They used to be the centre of attention all the time and hated it when dd came along. They'd sit mewing at the door to be let in all day but as soon as I did dd would chase them and they'd want back out again. ONe would also catch mice and birds (a pigeon once). They also started doing the toilet indoors. WE found it really hard work looking after them and an elderly dog along with a baby. We thought about it for AGES but in the end realised that the only reason we wanted to keep them was because we wanted them, not because they still wanted us IFSWIM. WE reached the stage where we genuinely thought they'd be happier elswhere. WE contacted the CAts Protection League, who weren't very helpful so in the end we put an ad in our local free-ad and a couple with a garden, no children, llots of spare time and huge animal lovers took them. Of course we were sorry to see them go but I know it was the right thing to do. I've spoken to them since and tey've settled in fine (although one did escape the day after they got them but made his way to a local vet who scanned their microchip and phoned us- couldn't understand how he'd managed to travel60 miles!)
Anyway, sorry about the ramble but if you feel it's the right thing then do it.

swiperfox · 16/04/2005 16:49

Thanks Hayls. I'm feeling more and more guilty by the day for thinking about getting rid of them but they cant be as happy as they should be here, surely. If Lolasmum comes back to me and says she has a home for them then that'll be superb. If she doesnt then it'll take me a while to get the courage to advertise them again. Bloody cats!!!!!!!!

Anyone?

I'm going to have to ring the cpl in the next couple of days.

I dont really want them to take them - I'd rather know where they were and that they were kept together

Hi, Sorry for delay in getting back. Our internet connection has been down at work. Never get chance to look at MN at home... I spoke to my friend and she doesn't want to get another cat(s) yet. They're hoping to move soon. It wasn't your cats antics that put her off as she once found a semi-alive mouse in her trainer! I hope you are able to find thema good home. Good luck.

swiperfox · 20/04/2005 13:03

No worries - thank you for asking her though
