My cat has gone on hunger strike!

She is probably getting fed (or helping herself) elsewhere, she's refused everything I've offered her...Felix, whiskas & Tesco's own, since Saturday morning. She sniffs it and then scratches at the floor, as if she's covering something up. From now on I'll just put cat biscuits down for her....little madame.

She's trying to bury the uneaten food so other cats won't eat it.

Is she old? Is she drinking? Does she seem okay in herself?

She's nearly 2, and is fine in herself....never been a very family friendly cat! I assume she's drinking. I thought she was scratching to cover it because she thinks it's like poo!

Is she neutered and vaccinated?

brightwell · 24/02/2009 11:40

Yes to both.

So not in season then...

I would keep an eye on her and get her checked out if she still isn't eating and/or seems unwell.

My cats used to do this, if she seems ok in herself and she isn't losing weight I wouldn't worry too much. My cats stopped eventually and just ate it, funny little sods.

Cats can not actually cope all that well for more than a few days without food before they start having other problems. If you think you know where she might be eating ask them for peace of mind, otherwise I'd suggest you keep her in so you can be properly aware of whether she is eating or not. Any doubts then it is better to see the vet sooner rather than later.
