Sorry to hear about Hank, but what a cutie your new one is

What's his name?

TheThoughtPolice · 23/02/2009 14:45

Poor old Hank

Your new boy is v sweet. I always thought that Syrian hamsters couldn't live together as they are v territorial and fight.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/02/2009 20:29

they are very territorial and fight together - ours are not in the same cage, but side by side

and other hammy was sad and moping etc since hank died

hes really perked up since new hammy came

he is called Mr G - aka Gary

Much, much too gorgeous, Blondie!

Am sure he will have a very happy, pampered life with you

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/02/2009 10:10

im sure he will

he loved his baby porridge this morning before i left for work

and he is so sociable - a little bit too sociable tbh - he is always swinging from roof or knawing on cage door to be let out

and dh always lets him out - god help us when we have children - he will be picking them up at every first cry

he never seems to sleep - so much for baby hammies sleeping 20hrs a day

OP posts:
bella29 · 24/02/2009 10:27

What kind of baby porridge do you feed them?

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/02/2009 14:30

shame on your bella - you have been depriving your hammies

they have farleys baby porridge (the one you give babies when 1st weaning) or puppy food

i was told years ago by a trusted hammy owner to give to them when babies

though mine often have when older , they LOVE porridge - i make a little pot of it, great also if you need to give them medicine drops as well

Thanks, Blondie - will mend my slovenly hamster mummy ways forthwith!

I assume you mix it with water?

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/02/2009 19:30

yes water

your furries will LOVE you forever

Will pop to the shops tomorrow then - thanks again for the tip & all the best with your new boy!

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/02/2009 20:09

anytime

makes up for all the help with our peeing puppy

who now at 8.5mths is completly trained and has been for a while

his only bad habbit is now that he wont get into car boots without a fuss

any ideas?

very hard to lift a 8.5 stone dog

OP posts:
bella29 · 25/02/2009 21:41

LOL - my lab pup is very similar in his attitude to car boots - and he's only 5.5 stone

Have you tried luring him in with a treat? Or making the car boot a 'fun' place by giving him his meals in there? Having said that, I just give in and hoist my pup in whilst making grunting weight-lifter type noises!

Have just given my Hammy his porridge - you're right, he loved it, even though he has lived for 2.5 years without it The porridge appetiser was followed by a red pepper main course, so I'm not really a terribly bad hammy mummy, am I?

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/02/2009 11:12

yes try luring with treats - unfort our puppy doeant like treats

must be the only dog who doesnt!!

we have a ramp, which he HATES and only way is to get front paws up and sheer grunting/lifting - only done this twice

DB needs to train him to get into car!!!!

we had a dog cleaner round yesterday and she couldnt get him in her van - she wasnt amused when i said i couldnt stay and help her as i had 3 young children to give tea to and do homework etc, she had to muzzle him

glad hammy LOVED his porridge - and def not a bad hammy mummy - least he had veg for his lunch

mine had grated carrot and cucumber, followed by teaspoon of dh yogurt

Am deliberately ignoring the reference to your Hammy Haute Cuisine, Blondie. I will never be in your league!!!

Your dog doesn't like any treats?

Have you tried:

cheese
chopped up hot dog sausages
cooked liver?

Or do you spend all your time cooking for Hammy?

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/02/2009 12:01

hot dog sausages

SHUDDERS

wouldnt even give these to my kiddiwinks, let alone the dog

we have tried dog treats, but just doesnt seem to like these and turns his nose up

but will try cheese when im back next week

he is just very stubborn, typical male, but once in the car he loves it, and will happily lie down and go to sleep, its just getting the bugger in there

doesnt help that we have a high car, and therefore the boot is high

he can jump up - if he wants to

but hasnt got enough strength in his back paws to jump up - least i know he will never escape from his garden

yes our hammies are PAMPERED - they are our babies - till we have real babies

just hope as i am away proxy parenting till tueam, that dh take proper care over ourmy babies

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/02/2009 12:02

ps the red pepper sounds yummy

will try

OP posts:
bella29 · 26/02/2009 12:05

You're right to be using the ramp - very important for big dogs not to do too much jumping while their joints are developing.

I can categorically assure you that hot dog sausages are not served at the Bella dinner table, but a little bit chopped up goes a long way in coaxing puppies!!! One has to be somewhat discreet at the checkout, though

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/02/2009 13:49

hmmmmmm does my dog really want to eat cow and pigs testicles?

worst thing a friends pikey friend gives hot dogs to her children all the time

its all very well having a ramp, but the dog wont go up it, and took 3vets and me to get him in the car last week!!!

by sheer brute force and upper manly strength by sexy vet

will get mb to buy cold cats aka hot dogs and will let you know the outcome

OP posts:
bella29 · 26/02/2009 14:14

at sexy vet...

tbh, if your big Swiss dog could talk and you asked him, I suspect the answer to the testicles question would be 'Yes, please!!!'

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/02/2009 14:37

no no no

he wouldnt - would he

though he does spend an awful long time cleaning his male bits self

poor baby 8mths got an eye ful handful the other day

she was quite happily sitting and playing on floor and along came woofa, who is very gentle with all children, and he then turned 180* round, and somehow she was under his plums and they were balanced on her head, and his tail was wagging and she was trying to grab his tail- - was very funny

i obviously got the puppy to move, before she grabbed anything

OP posts:
bella29 · 26/02/2009 14:40

Didn't you get a photo?

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/02/2009 16:34

i should have done but alas not

sure hopefully it will wont happen again
