Worried about kitten's eating habits

We have a 6 month old kitten whom we have had for 4 months.

She has had a very normal healthy appetite until very recently. In the last 3 days she has barely eaten anything.

She had been quite fussy about the freshness of the food and I have actually thrown stuff out that has been in her dish a while and replaced it.

However she is now turning her nose up at that. I know she is hungry as she will attempt to get at leftover cereal etc.

She is her usual self other than this although she has never been outside and lately has been crying at the window and another cat has been hanging around outside.

Is she simply lovesick or should I be a bit more concerned? Or have I spoilt her? (DH's helpful view!)

Cat novice here and would really welcome some expert advice.

I take it that she's been spayed?

No expert, put has she been spayed yet? She sounds like she is on heat to me.

boismycat · 04/02/2009 17:46

Not yet. Plan was to do that this month then with the bad weather kind of put it off.

Okay, my guess is that she's in heat then. I'd get her spayed soon as, and make sure she doesn't sneak out and come back pregnant! (As did a cat of ours at university...).

Thanks! Yes will keep a close eye on her and phone vet tomorrow.

Mind now at ease and can tell DH that not actually my fault for being a softie intent on spoiling cat like the children..

not so much lovesick as 'appalling furry tart' syndrome I think

Like your terminology, mitchy

Yes, sounds like she is in season so do not let her out or she'll get pregnant.

She'll now start to cycle every 3 weeks so you need to book her in to be spayed asap.

Good luck.
