how to stop my kitten tormenting my cat

Hi, I have a three year old female cat and about 4 months ago I got a male kitten. The kitten is now 6 months old and he torments my other cat. He watches her constantly and then chases her. She hates it and is miserable. I shout at him whenever he does it and sometimes smack him but he takes no notice.

Basically I really regret getting the kitten but my son is really attached to him. Can anyone advise about what to do to make him stop? He is being spade soon, is that likely to help at all?

He's being a normal kitten. He will calm down when he has his bits removed, but will still be playful. Your older cat is obviously not accustomed to other cats and this little upstart is a surprise for her. Just let her smack him back.

thank you. The thing is she is a lovely cat but passive and quiet. She likes to just sleep, eat and be stroked and is quite overweight. She occasionally smacks him or hisses but mostly is just terrified and runs away. She is always on edge and he is obviously quite dominent and chases her whenever she moves!

I hope the op will calm him down otherwise I can't keep him because her peaceful life has turned into a hell.

what sort of things do you do to keep him occupied?

he's got a lot of toys and we do play with him but maybe not enough

What sort of toys? He sounds like he needs to burn off a bit more energy?

please dont smack your kitten as he will get scared of you and its cruel its not his fault he wants to play thats why hes chasing your cat, my cat is 12 and ive got a kitten 4 moths and my older cat hates her but he just puts her in line and walks off or hides frm her until shes calmed your kitten will learn in the end if you have to spray him with a bit of water. But things will calm down as the kitten gets older. good luck.

does he go outside alot?

we have a 6 month old who goes into mad moods sometimes and we just dump him out into the gardent to wear off some energy before he gets whacked by the older cat or breaks something.

he'll calm down as he gets older, right now he's just learning and full of energy... don't get cross at him, just distract him when he chases her.
