I've read that after a night on the hunt, cats would eat at daybreak, ready to settle down to sleep for the day.
I think it's just the cats bodyclock. Ours is same same - although I tend to ignore her at that time of the morning!

thanks, i try to keep her in so she doesnt get run over, had a run of bad luck recently and lost two cats . i do need catflap i was just wishing she was more of a daytime cat but your all right. wot does bumping mean?

mine wake me up in the small hours too but are usually happy to climb into the bed with me and be cuddled for a while.

think if you can put a cat flap in it might be your best option though, my parents cat wakes them up at the crack of dawn every morning to go out too and it's been going on for years now.

it's tough after you lose a cat though, you do become seriously overprotective. i barely let my kitten out at all for weeks after his brother was hit and if he was out of sight for more than 2 mins i paniced and called him back

bumping is when you post on a thread solely to 'bump' it up the list of threads, so people who can answer will see it.

On MN, this is now called 'doing a Puzzlerocks'.

our smallest cat is only 11 weeks old but has discovered the bed in a big way..... he's already figured out that if we're too fast asleep to cuddle him that licking our ears is a fairly effective way of waking us... not licking the outside of the ear mind... sticking his tongue right in [shudder]
