If I use Vax carpet shampoo to clean cat wee, will it make it worse?

As the title says really. I know you should use washing powder but I need to do a big area and can't do it all on my hands and knees? I have an Upright Vax and not sure if I can use washing powder in it without damaging the machine?

Will Vax carpet shampoo make the cat problem worse and make them want to wee on the carpet more?

I THINK it's only bleach type cleaners that make it worse, so you should be ok

it doesnt get rid of the smell cos the smell in the floor boards, you have to pull back the carpet and wash the floor boards with bleach then let them air dry

I know it won't get rid of the smell in the floor boards, but if I do all that, will be weed on again with 10 mins so there isn't much point at the mom. Cats being rehomed soon so will then look at doing floor boards again. Just need the carpet done.

I am pretty sure using bleach is one of the worse things you can do anyway because it is ammonia based and will just attract cats to wee there as you are basically telling them that it is a toilet?

you can get a spray from the vets to stop the cat weeing on the floor, think its called endodour, (or similar) works with dogs too!

Yes I have ordered some spray, just need to know about the Vax thing for now. Thanks though

we vaxed the carpet with the vax carpet cleaner and then used the spray thats meant to stop them and our cat still went back and peed in the same spot.

I probably wouldnt use washing powder but i would try the liquid version of washing powder

dsrplus8haggisandneeps · 25/01/2009 21:18

clayre's right liquid washing , use a bio one, the enzimes will destroy the bacteria in cat pish!

chloejessmeg · 25/01/2009 21:46

To be honest, I pretty much know she is still going to wee there, but just want to get the worst out. So I don't have any liquid bio in the house, only powder - Are you saying I am best off not to clean it?

Have been out this morning and got some liquid bio Daz washing liquid. How do I know how much to use? it is the concantrate stuff? But wary about foaming?

Personally I just stick a half measure of persil non bio in a bowl and get down on my hands and knees (not much fun) but brings carpet up lovely, although i'm not contending with cat piss..... just general toddler detritus.

Try it on a small area and give it a go.... surely it can't get muc worse

Thanks.

Cats are going to a new home very soon so can then get rid of it properly.

Last night, one did it when we were in the same room and we didn't even see! It was when I was posting on here about cleaning it. Then went over to the spot and there was a wet patch! Hadn't even noticed the cats move!
