I might be rehoming a puppy from a rescue. She is about 10 weeks old. Would it be ok to change her name as she is so young?

My parents did this when they took on a 6 month old dog. Changed it's name from Kim to Finn (stuck with something similar sounding).

We changed our rescue dogs name too, but as she's deaf it didn't matter

We're not really sure what we will call her yet though.

We changed our rescue dog 's name when we got her at 7 months. We double-barrelled it for a while and then dropped the old name.

If you get a pup from a breeder its not till 8-10 weeks anyway, so you're not really renaming it - just giving it's first proper name.

We changed our dalmatian's name when we rescued him at 15 months; it was no problem at all.

Now we just need to think of something for her.

No problem with such a young dog.

Someone I know took on an eight year old dog that had been with the same family all it's life and changed it's name to something completely different because she wasn't keen on it . Poor dog.

Ooooh I might call her Pixie!!

Oh bless. You should be able to change it without a problem - we got Boydog when he was 14 weeks and changed his name. It took a few days, but it was fine. (And he is the most monumentally stupid canine I have ever come across.) Our friends rescued a dog (admittedly a clever collie) when she was two and changed her name from Dora to Molly, and she took to it straight away. (Although we don't mention the 'D' word now!)

Good luck with your new puppy.
