cat flap

can anyone recommend a really good cat flap to me.

I want to be able to lock the cats out to stop then from bringing in live and semi eaten rodent presents.

My cat keeps breaking the cat flap we have because if we lock it, she bangs really hard on the bottom side that doesn't have the lock on and it does open but then the flap is swinging in the breeze as it the flap then is on the wrong side of the lock and magnetic strip. This then also means that all of the neighbours cats have free reign over the house (i hope that makes sense)

It also needs to stop other cats from coming in as we are currently also feeding 3 cats that don't belong to us!

Hiya - I have 2 giant cats and at the moment I really could cook them!!

I have used all sorts of cat flaps over the years - the ones where you code the cat flap to the collar - the ones where its a magnet. Nothing really worked the way I hoped. Other peoples cats still came in. finding a decapitated seagull on my kitchen floor ( they had removed the wings to get it through the catflap!!)was not the highlight of my week that they obviously thought it would be, and finding the neihbours hamster on my sofa? horrendous!

What I didn't know was that cats carry salmonella and listeria in their saliva. Cats lick themselves all the time. My cats are constantly leaping on the counters and table which means that I am constantly dettoxing! The little presents carry really nasty diseases. The level of risk depends on the frequency these things are happening and the ages of your children. Weals disease is carried by rats and can kill adult humans within a week.

We are building a utility room that the cats will be able to get into with a catflap, but won't be able to get into the rest of the house. You could just block the catflap entirely and have the cat going in and out when you open the door?

i don't like the idea of them being locked in though which is why i like the idea of a cat flap but i don't want things being brought in.

Is there really nothing on the market that is "cat proof" to stop them from getting in through a locked cat flap?

The cat that bangs the flap really hard has also been known to dig her claws into the edge strip that goes around the flap and lifts it just high enough to get in that way.

She is too clever for her own good!
