She is 7 months old, cross breed.

She is driving me crazy and basically recking my house.

A friend suggested putting a 'humaine' muzzle on her but i'm not sure i really like the idea of that.

Just need to stop her from chewing everything.

there is spray stuff u can buy from asda, its non toxic but tastes foul

She's probably teething so get her some chew toys that she can chew instead. Make sure it's not boredom too, lots of exercise and play can help.

any idea why my 6 week old pup like chewing me all the time? i thought he might be teething but from the last post they teeth much later

BlueSapphire77 · 08/01/2009 19:19

Loopy lou has probably got the best idea, that spray worked for me, it makes the dog pull a right face too haha

Take them for very long walks and buy them a nylabone and when they are at home alone make sure they are in a cage.

Dog crates are wonderful for saving your house from being destroyed. You only need to put the dog in there when you aren't around to keep an eye on her but it means you don't have to constantly worry about what devastation you are going to find when you get back. My mum's pup puts herself to bed in hers at night and settles down quite happily.

she isn't teething anymore as she has all her teeth now, she just likes to chew things up

Then get lots of chew toys for her to indulge her chewing needs and spray everything else with the horrible stuff. She should learn what's acceptable and what's not. She's still a puppy so it's less likely to be boredom related, but make sure she's stimulated a lot too and encouraged to chew the right things.

Kong - buy two, fill and freeze. Rotate once empty

Cardboard - boxes, cereal packets, christmas present boxes - any. Leave to destroy

Plastic bottles - remove all lid rings - leave to destroy

Basically; provide things to chew so they won't chew your stuff (NOT material things - they don't know the difference between a material stringy rope toy and the bottom of the sofa tassles or a slipper or the favourite teddy of your child that can't be replaced!)

This is normal puppy behaviour and needs normal puppy thinking to counteract it; muzzling is cruel unless it's needed due to aggression (which it isn't) IMVHO; crating is a fab idea

7mo is approaching adolescence. Like teenage humans, they become trying and defiant!

I suggest dog training ASAP to get on top of her before she gets n top of you!

The only thing that stopped my Dog chewing was a good bollocking.

mysterymoniker · 09/01/2009 09:31

agree with lewisfan

but back it up with plenty of walks and other stimulating activities - teach her lots of tricks to keep her mind active, make her work for her food instead of just putting it in a bowl all in one go

Alambil · 09/01/2009 10:19

oh yes - a good bollocking when she chews the wrong thing does wonders

My mum took her pup back once an hour after a hefty "NO!" originally to the site of destruction (wooden table leg) and said a loud (and angry) "NO!" whilst showing her the leg again... dogs DO remember what they've done, by the way - so if she eats something when your out, like my mum was, just take her back, show her the destruction and bollock.

She's NEVER chewed anything she shouldn't. Ever again; she was 6m at the time - she's 6yrs now.

Hugo shreds paper when he's feeling hard done by, i think he knows he wont get too told off for it but he never touches anything else.. He chewed up £250 worth of glasses when he was about 7 or 8 months and got a right ticking off, all it takes now is that..Whats this and he looks sheepish !

A little dab of vicks vapour rub wherever she is chewing works brilliantly. It doesn't harm them but they don't like the taste or smell so learn to keep away. I put it on the legs of dining chairs etc. and our pup (now 8 months) left it all alone. You only have to do it once or twice for them to get the idea.
