He always has been a wanderer and I spotted him outside, managed to get him in, but he is hissing and fighting our 2 female cats. He looks healthy and ov. has been looked after, but am I being unfair to keep him in when he doesn't want to be here?
How long before he settles back down again?

He may not want to be an indoor cat- does he have any scars you can see that would indicate a semi-wild existence?

SparklyGothKat · 07/01/2009 20:05

he never was an indoor cat, but he used to come in for food and a sleep and then disappear again. This was the longest he has been away. He has a pin in his leg after being shot and he also has Feline lower urine tract disease, so I feel terrible when he is missing as I don't know if his bladder is blocked.

I know how you feel, my tabby cat went missing for 6 years before he returned. It's the not knowing.
Would a trip to the vets reassure you at all?
Do you think he's been lodging elsewhere then?

i remember when he went before

Amazing!

When we moved to the USA, the cat was delivered to our new house by the courier and she disappeared the same day. This was December - cold and thick snow - we thought she was a goner. A week later, we heard a miaow, and it was our cat returning from goodness knows where.

She never disappeared again. She had been an outdoor cat in the UK but we didn't have a catflap in our rented house so had a litter tray. We often left the door open but she was never interested in going out.

I have no idea how she managed to find our house after a week or what she was up to during that time.

yes I think he is living elsewhere, he looks too healthy to be living wild. His fur looks shiny and he smells of purfume (sp?) lol

he found himself a little old lady! aww, how sweet. If that's the case she will have whipped him up to the vets and had him checked out early on so he probbaly is on a special diet or something.
Is it an old lady type perfume?

But he is chipped so they would know who owns him. Am going to give him 2 weeks to settle and if he doesn't I am going to think about rehoming him to someone who has no children and no other pets as he isn't happy to be here

The vets would not necessarily scan him for a chip - only if the person who took him said they had found him and even then if they said they had looked for an owner and not found one it may still not be done - frustrating I know - that said I still think microchipping is a brilliant idea to do because is there is ever a debate about ownership you have proof and certainly know strays at shelters etc are scanned so there is a better than nothing chance of them coming back home in that circumstance. I would look out for someone who is now saying they have lost a cat thinking their "new" cat they took in as a stray has gone wandering off. Will he wear a collar? It is worth getting one of the click off collars (not elasticated ones - snap off clips on collars MUCH safer) and putting a tag on it with your contact number on it and maybe a message too to say he is owned, always has been etc. It may get lost, but then again it may just solve the problem once he is out and about again.
Good luck!

I think you might have meant 'purrfume'

SparklyGothKat · 09/01/2009 01:06
