Can you have g-pigs without a grassed garden?

Just wondering - DS is longing for a pet-pet and I think a guinea is most suitable, but we only have a concreted area in which to place the cage (for now - am redoing the garden as time / money / weather allows)

So, is it totally out of the question?

my sis has a rabbit and no garden

she has a huge raised bed area in her small decked yard,

he seems happy enough

you can have house rabbits after all,

get the pig an indoor cage

No space for an indoor cage, unfortunately!

My adorable long haired gps live in the sitting room, not in a cage but in a big base of a cage (ie a large tray). They are part of the family and are cuddled loads. I would hate to have them away from everyone as they'd get little attention. They call when they want treats or cuddles and generally light up our lives. So no you don't need a garden, just a corner of your living room or kitchen.

Lewis...not having a garden or grass is not a problem with having a guinea...they don't have to have grass. When mine go out in their runs they go out on the patio because its a lot easier....it keeps their claws down and its easier to clean up after them when they come back indoors. Yes they like to eat grass but you could always go and pull a few clumps of it down your local park and put it in their runs/cage. I would definitely recommend pigs for kids...guineas are such lovely little creatures with so much character. Whatever you do though if you do get youngsters/babies don't put them outside until its a lot warmer and even then make sure they are in a safe enclosed hutch with loads of bedding/hay etc.

The vet nurse told us to let ours run on the patio. Come and join our GP thread

Hiya smurf!

Yes Lewis..come over to the GP thread!...look on my profile for it if you can't find it!

I will not be getting them til summer holiday anyway so no issue there.

Can't have them inside - the cat would eat them!

We have indoor GPs and a cat! Just make sure the door is closed.
In response to your question, we don't have grass either. Just a concrete yard. The GPs love to play out in the sunshine in the summer.
Buy a cat litter tray and fill it with compost and grass seed. Voila! Instant grass, put the GPs on it and put the top half of the cage over them to keep them safe. Ours never complain!

Purpleone...that's a good idea re the grass in a tray. Bit like growing cress!

Hope all us pig owners are ok today. It's clean out day here again later. Messy job but I love doing it cos they go jumping around when I put them back in their nice clean cages. I guess that's their way of saying thank you?!!
