16 wk old pup has roundworms, could we be infected too ?

Ironically I wormed him this morning and later on in the morning I noticed a roundworm in his poo. It looked like an elastic band or a beansprout, nice!
I have a 5yo dd and just wondering if we should all get a sachet of 'stuff' for us in case we've become infected too. Our pup is very 'licky'.

Does scooting around on his bum also constitute roundworms or would that be tapeworm ?

Hi, you should def get the puppy wormed with something that works against toxocara- round owrms.

Humans don't get the same symptoms if they get an infection ie worms in their intestines- but the larvae can cause problems in children if they end up eating them in either poo or contaminated soil. The big problem with round worms in children is if the larvae migrate into the eye- this can cause blindness.

Soo- the advice is to worm the puppy and clean up well after him/her and not let your children touch the poo/handwashing etc.

there's a link on the nhs website too which will explian better, I'm nursing a very very sore neck so can't think straigh right at the moment

and scooting can be due to any sort of anal irritation- so could be worms (euither sort) or even if there's been a bit of diarrhoea, or even blocked anal glands (which may need a squeeze from your vet/vet nurse)

The worms are present in his poo because you've just wormed him, they come out because they are dying. If you see several it might be worth getting some more wormer from the vet. I had this with my puppy and rang them for info, I think I wormed him again about a week later, but I can't remember as it was a couple of years ago! rung your vets and see what they say, but you want to make sure you've got rid of all of them. They're really horrible aren't they - my puppy sicked a couple up too.
