ok its not really. but who posts in pets anyway....now you are here...

my dog has what i think i can only describe as a cold sore thing where the holes to her whiskers are inbetween the nose and mouth, its not scabby nit its erm.. looks like a scab without the scab - it was black - like her - but now its going pinky - am dead worried - but dont want to go to vets as they cost a bloody fortune.

any ideas what i could google?

I was about to post - How will she smell!

but realise it is a serious post...
could it be a flea bite?

Picante · 22/12/2008 18:12

Can't help at all but good thread title.

Threadworm · 22/12/2008 18:13

Ah seems from link that is more likely to be aging or season-related.

Is dog elderly?

I just googled 'dog' 'nose' 'viligo' and got quite a few hits.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 22/12/2008 18:34

What kind of dog is she/ how old?? Can you post a pic, and I will try to help!

Tortington · 22/12/2008 18:35

threadworm, thats a bloody brillant link - thank you so much, its v reassuring - she is getting on a bit she is 9 - i think

shes a sheepdog black lab cross looking thing - escue dog, quite common heinz looking variety - i see dogs like he all the time.

i have no facility to post a pic.

but it isn't her nose per se. its the whiskery bit and just under the nostril hole, it is slighly raised the whikers are still through it but i cant see the holes - the whisker holes are noticeable aren't they

its literally under her nostril hole on one side.

Oh good I'm glad its helpful and reassuring.

It does seem likely that it is absolutely nothing to worry about (or to spend a fortune on vets for).

Just spent fortune at vets for my dog's tail. Was all sore at end and he has licked it bald at tip. Looks like worm. Is healing though.

Oooh, hmmmm, keep getting info on lupus, that's not what you want to hear..
hmmm, will ask vet friend in the morrow.
My old cat had a huge seizure 3 days after i cancelled pet insurance, so i know what a cocking worry it is.

BlueSapphire77 · 22/12/2008 19:10

Get a friend who is on income support to take the dog to rspca hospital or pdsa
Naughty i know but there are new laws about pets and they deserve to have the same care taken of them as children..after all they rely on us for their wellbeing..not having a go or anything cos i threw a wobbly in the vets just last week after paying an enormous bill because my dog needed antibiotics and the rate is higher as he's a big dog so i know where you're coming from.

Tortington · 22/12/2008 19:54

i don't have a mate on income support - not that lives within 300 miles - good idea though!

Hi Custy, my dalmatian had something similar last year; he was referred to a specialist and in the end it turned out that his eyes had stopped producing tears and as eyes and nose are linked, it had caused his nose to dry out too.

Simple eye drops kick-started his tear ducts and he was fine again pretty quicky

(My dally was 12 at the time, 13.5 now)

TaLcYundertheMistletoe · 23/12/2008 17:21

Vet friend (actually a friend of a friend...but a wealth of infomation] not around at my work today custy. So all in all, i've been a fat lot of help.Sorry!
Hope it's nothing serious and that nose recovers soon.

Tortington · 23/12/2008 17:43
