Anyone Want To Have My Cat???

magnolia74 · 18/12/2008 17:25

I feel so fecking awful

I have 2 cats and 2 dogs all were living quite happily (ish) My older cat has always been a bossy bugger and been in charge of the dogs but its got worse and worse. Now he will pick a fight with the dog all the time and the dog is now defending herself. My cat is 15 and the stupid bugger picks these fights but can't run off quick enough anymore and I swear he is going to end up really hurt

He has started to sometimes poo in the house, took him to the vet who thinks he is old and severly stressed
He suggested rehoming or puting him to sleep!!!
I can't put a cat to sleep because of this

All the local centres are too full and can't help.
I know this is a huge long shot but anyone know someone without dogs and young kids who would rehome an old cat???

oh no

Can you try to keep them separated with a litter tray for the cat? My oldest cat is 18 and has senile moments where he sometimes poos where he shouldn't, it is very frustrating so I sympathise.

some rescues in your area - have you tried them all?

5 kids running around the house means we don't have a chance of keeping doors shut so he just gets out comes downstairs and starts a fight

Have rang everywhere. Waiting for Last chance in Kent to get back to us

Thing is he isn't a bit senile and acts like a young cat. Vet thinks the pooing is him showing he's boss

And yes considered re homing the dog but I have 2 and would have to rehome them both as they are inseperable. Its only the one dog he starts on though.

I could ask dh if we could look after him for you but we wouldn't be able to pay the vet bills IYSWIM, that is why we didn't get another cat when the last one died because of the cost.

We have 4 dds but not other animals but perhaps less stressful?

magnolia74 · 18/12/2008 18:17

Thanks for offering Sleighgirl but I don't think our busy house is helping either

I really need him if possible to go somewhere with much older children

Have this silly thought in my head that someone might know an older person maybe on there own who would like a house cat

actually I may do.

Is he very affectionate and is he already a house cat?

MLWfirsttimemum · 18/12/2008 18:21

If your vet thinks the cat is stressed, did he mention using Feliway, the cat pheromone plug-in? It's meant to be good for making cats feel comfortable and "destressing" them and we used it when we moved house with excellent results. It's totally odour-free and may be worth a shot if you can't find anyone to take your cat on?

magnolia74 · 18/12/2008 18:29

He is affectionate in his own way although its on his terms as in he will come for cuddles but deosn't like people insisting on cuddles like my kids
He isn't a house cat as such but would prefer to be if we didn't have the dogs. He tends to only go out to get away from them and them. He only goes in our front garden and thats it so would happily stay in.

Have tried the feliway but hasn't helped. Also tried bachs remedy

I will speak to my friend at the weekend and let you know.

What breed is he, any other info? Whereabouts are you, we're in surrey too btw.

magnolia74 · 18/12/2008 18:44

He is a standard black moggie, 16 next march. He is fully wormed and de flead but hasn't had injections for the past couple of years since he starting staying in most of the time. He likes normal tinned food but isn't keen on biscuits. Likes chocolate and sweetcorn too
My kids are so sad

We are near Epsom I hope in a way you are not too close as I couldn't bear to be to close to him.

we are fairly close but not around the corner, I'm in runnymede. Her last cat died of cancer (had an investigative op and they decided not to bring him around IYSWIM) so my only concern is taking on an elderly cat who may not be around for long or end up costing ££££££££££££'s. However I will talk to her, she's on her own and has some health problems so at home quite a lot of the time.

Lovesdogsandcats · 20/12/2008 01:33

Magnolia, you will not get a better offer than sleighgirl here or the elderly person she knows...looks like you will have to offer to pay any vets bills, but then you would have paid them anyway if you didn't rejhome him.

it is very hard to rehome animals let alone older ones, so i would grab this offer if it is still open. Hope things work out.

SleighGirl · 20/12/2008 13:06

Sorry my friend has decided no, her neighbours cat visits often so I think that's her happy compromise.

magnolia74 · 20/12/2008 20:07

Ok Sleighgirl, thanks so much for trying x
