I miss my cockatiel bird

It flew away about 6 weeks ago now. I have put posters, called vets, visited aviaries all witout success...until this morning when a vet surgery called to say they had him I was so happy I bursted in tears. A few minutes later, as I was making arrangements to go and pick him up, they called again to say it was not mine. I am sooooo sad. I really thought I had got over it but this glimse of hope brought it all back. I was so looking forewards to surprise the Dcs that we had him back as well.

If you live in greater Manchester and have found a lost cockatiel (between 7th November and now) please let me know. He is grey and yellow with nice orange cheeks.

I know it is probably hopeless but I will try anyway.

My pal had a cockatiel.

Once, when he and my ex h went on a climbing expedition, I offered to birdsit.

That damn cockatiel was the loudest, screechiest thing on the planet. The neighbour in the apartment across the hall could hear him!

It also got out of its cage one morning and made me late for work.

Gorionine · 16/12/2008 18:02

I miss the loud screeching too!

Sad
expatinscotland · 16/12/2008 21:51

get another one.

there are loads out there.

if i found one, i'd probably walk past it, it would bring back flashbacks of screeching.

Gorionine · 16/12/2008 23:01

No I want My screechy one! I know I sound like a spoilt brat but a different one would not have the same sparkly personality.

I know what you mean. We have a 6 mth old African Grey parrot and we`d be devastated if we lost her. She has such a lovely, sometimes grumpy, personality.

Doodle2U · 17/12/2008 12:05

My DS does a nice line in screaching (as you well know!). I'll send him over to try and fill the void!

Gorionine · 17/12/2008 12:09

Oh thanks Doodle, I'd like that!

I had cockatiels when I was growing up. One of mine flew away too and someone found him three weeks later. I'm afraid to say that he was just never the same after we got him back though.

Would you consider getting another one?

If he's been gone for six weeks it's unlikely he would be able to survive in the wild and if he was able to survive then he has most likely become wild now so even if you got him back he would be unlikely to be the same bird you had before he flew away.

I have a budgie and an African Grey parrot now, and the parrot has recently learned to say "shut up!" .

Gorionine · 17/12/2008 12:31

I do not think he is in the wild anymore, He likes his food to much and is very friendly (even though is a grumpy one) and I am pretty confident he must have invited himself to someone's house.

I am not sure I want another one, not yet anyway as it would not be the same. In what way was yours different when it came back wannabe?

wannaBe · 17/12/2008 12:38

He was just totally different. He was never a tame bird anyway (I got him when he was older so was too late for taming) but he would talk to you if you went to the cage/would whistle if you called the dogs etc, and obv he screached a lot as cockatiels do.

But when we got him back he seemed to have lost all those abilities and would just screach, although he was a lot quieter when we got him back.

he died about 6 months later .

Gorionine · 17/12/2008 13:02

he probably did have a hard time, poor bird.

Mine was not tamed either. He was given to us by BIL who himself had it from someone else so I do not know how old he was but he was a healthy bird.

Been thinking - cockatiels are all well and pretty and everything but you know what you need - chickens! Two chickens, £10 each and a cheap coop and run! Chicken food available just off Marple road and you can supplement with kitchen scraps. Eggs on tap - perfect! And ... they don't fly off!

All the expert hep you could ever need, right here!

Gorionine · 17/12/2008 20:50

Nice one! well, the way I am going at the moment, I am sure I would get the cast of "Chicken Run" the only chicken in the world with a dream of freedom (I might give them kilts as well!)

OP posts:
Doodle2U · 17/12/2008 20:56

My three chickens would luuuurve kilts if you've got time to sew some?!

Gorionine · 17/12/2008 21:00

I am on to it, with a bit of luck they should be ready....

...when your hens grow teeth...

Ya just gettin' sharper and sharper on the ol' wit front Matey!

Off to watch tv - see you tomorrow.

Gorionine · 17/12/2008 21:07

It all this british influence. Do you know I have cooked Yorkshire pudding last night? (wonder how it would taste with roast chicken and gravy?)

Chicco has been spotted yesterday in great moor park, they could not catch him. Grrr So frustrating

TheSeriousSanta · 26/12/2008 16:35

At least you know he's OK....

I KNOW that's not much comfort, but at least you know he's safe and well.

Hope you get him back soon.

Gorionine · 26/12/2008 16:43

you are right though he is alive!
