So this is Bella, my new rescue cat, she came to us from Blue Cross and is about 2. Isn't she gorgeous???
Now.. questions, cos I've never rescued an older cat before, we've always had kittens.
We got her Sat morn and she's just come out from under the chair. Is this normal? she pops out to scoff her food and is drinks then scuttles back under.
Also she seems to drink a lot, but very rarely uses the litter tray, no accidents anywhere else though. And no sign of any poo... again is this ok?
How long will it take her to settle in? ok so I know each cat is different but a guestimate? At this rate she might finish touring the house by next summer

I'd give her a week or so. Just ignore her when she's behind a chair, but offer your hand when she approaches you for a couple of weeks.

trust me, she's probably exploring when you're not home

How old are your children?

If they are fairly loud young then it might be that the cat isn't used to children so just sussing them out from a distance?

She'll soon gain her confidence

She's adorable! I agree, she'll be exploring when you're out/in bed and she'll come round, just give her time to adjust herself. You can try with maybe a wand type toy see if that tempts her out?

My new kitten was incredibly confident but didn't do a poo for a couple of days so I'm sure she'll be OK but if she doesn't use the tray for a poo overnight ring the Blue Cross you got her from for advice, see what they say.

Oh she is GORGEOUS! What you are going through with her is completely normal.

Give her a rub from me when you get the chance. That fur will really keep your hands warm.

ppppprrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I think we are quite loud, the boys are 7 + 9 and are very gentle with her though. on top of that we've also got a playful cocker spaniel so it must be a lot for her to take in.
She'd been at the centre for 7 months as well bless her.
She's very friendly when she does come out though, quite a lap cat which is great, I've never had on of those before.

How is she settling in now?

SparklyTinselBella · 18/12/2008 09:27

Gorgeous, Ingles! Keep her away from the hammies, won't you?

One of my cats spent a fortnight behind a wardrobe before I even saw him, and he is now very loving and affectionate - she'll be fine.
