Depressed cat?? Help!!

I think my cat's depressed. I have just had a baby - he is 2 weeks old - and obviously the dynamic in the household has changed considerably!! The cat has become listless and hasn't eaten anything since Friday evening. I don't know what to do

Any ideas? Obviously will take her to the vets tomorrow if no change but would be grateful of any advice in the meantime.

TIA

Barbs

how old is she? i think cats can get a bit jealous, but maybe she could be "just" ill? has she been wormed recently? any poo symptoms? I presume you have tried giving her loads of attention? We have a young cat who showed absolutely no jealousy when we adopted a new cat, which made me think only dogs get jealous, but maybe she just doesn't understand what the baby is!! she may think he can't be a human as he doesn't walk etc but doesn't know what to think!! Congrats on baby by the way!

Thank you thirtysomething. I think she is quite old - she 'adopted' us about 8/9 years ago. She is not going out to wee or poo. Tried to tempt her with corned beef/ tuna but she's not interested. Just phoned emergency vet and they said to bring her in

Hope she's OK. If it is just that her nose is out of joint, you could try those plug in pheromone things. I think they're called Feliway. They're a bit expensive but we used one when my dd was born and the cat was fine. Although this could well have been the case anyway and the plug in things a complete wast of money. Who knows?

I was about to suggest Feliway. Maybe ask your vet if you're taking her.

I think the difuser helped with my cat's stress-related cystitis (but as rb says it could have been a coincidence).

Hi!
Thanks for your responses. My sil used a pheromone thing when she moved house for her cats - I just didn't think!! Anyway DH has just taken the cat to the emergency vet so hopefully will soon know what the problem is. Such a worry

Gah! The vet thinks it is a problem with kidneys so she has to stay in for tests.

just a quick note to say that our elderly moggy went on hunger strike when we brought our baby DD home. BUT after a three slightly worrying weeks, the cat realised that the baby was a permanent fixture, and took a more pragmatic attitude towards her.
