Rescuing horses from slaughter from France

Hi ladies, I'm not sure this is allowed on here so please forgive me.
I recently found by accident a website called Equine Service, it's run by a lady who liases with the farmers who own 'fattening farms' where horses, ponies an doneys are fattened before going off for a 3 day journey to Italy, crammed into lorries, no food, no water. Especially popular are prenant mares are they 'taste sweeter'. I have no problems with people eating horsemeat but wish they didn't have to face such long journeys.
In particular there is one horse that has caught my eye, he goes on the lorry Saturday and will be dead by Tuesday. The farmer reduced him to 610 euros (about £476) he is 12 year old - has years ahead of him and microchipped so probably was a loving family horse at one time. If you cannot help but know someone looking for a horse, can you please pass this on. Please note you need to budget for travel costs(the lady who helps will bring him but you need about £450 ish depending on where in the UK you are. This is the message:
"serious danger dept 41 & 72 HAS UNTIL SATURDAY Chestnut Gelding Negotiated to 610 euros 12 year old chestnut gelding. Supposedly ridden but his cannot be confirmed. Chipped and identified.
Height approx 1m55 (15.1hh)

If you want to see a picture of him first, go to, www.equinesection.com/index.htm, he is the second one you'll see (if I've done it right).
Or you can sign the petition to try to get the export of live horses stopped.

Makes me so sad that they cannot slaughter first (although I personally am against it full stop). When I used to go to Southall Market you would see small ponies sold off for maybe £40, definatly for meat.

0h god, so sad, but living in a terraced house and pretty skint i can't help, i'd so love a horse...and to prevent a needless slaughter

The simplest thing to do to help prevent horrible situations like this is to make sure your horse has a passport and that you have signed the declaration to prevent the animal from entering the food chain. Then the horse cannot ever be slaughtered for food.

I am always amazed that so many horse owners do not know about this or have overlooked it.

Try sending the details here www.equine-lifeline.org/ they specialise in saving horses from the French meat trade.

Thanks for that link. Both my old ponies (38 and 25) have passports. Like you I hate to see animals being transported long distances with no food, water or rest, especially horses who get stressed very easily.
You are never going to stop people eating them, but conditions must be improved for them so they don't face these journeys. Saddest of all (for us mums) as I said before, are the pregnant mares - apparently pregnant mares taste sweeter
Anyway I am delighted to report the gelding I love was saved, but there is a never ending list of animals. For anyone intrested here is the link - if I've done it right.
