pLEASE TELL ME WHAT I CAN DO ABOUT THESE CATS COVERING MY GARDEN IN POO!

I am getting so fed up with this.

My nieghbour has 7 cats in his 2 bed flat and every single one of the furry bastards is pooing in my garden on a daily basis, and its always dioreah. [sngry]

I have stepped in it again today and had to put my boots in the washing machine.

It's quite frankly foul and dangerous to my ds so come spring/summer were going to have a real problem.

I know there is nothing thier owner can do but it's really bugging me, my garden stinks!

Call environmental health at your local council?

CharleeInChains · 20/11/2008 13:45

I would but what can they do? They can't stop him having the cats or stop them pooing in the garden!

It's managable when there is 1 but there are 7!!!!!!!!!!

Fire at them with a water pistol. I got rid of my neighbours cats that way.

PussinJimmyWhoooos · 20/11/2008 13:46

You can buy a certain type of cat alarm that goes off when they step into the garden - its too high pitched for human ears...not sure how well they work though?

Can you put up some trellis or something to deter them a little from getting in?

I love cats but would hate crap in my garden as DS plays in there so I do sympathise..also, 7 cats in a two bed - if its council, he may not be allowed that many - worth checking out?

CharleeInChains · 20/11/2008 13:48

Ii have a really high fence but they still come in.

I have tried all the 'keep off' pet deterent things but they don't work!!!!

OP posts:
CharleeInChains · 20/11/2008 13:49

I can't fire at them unless i am in the garden, i live in the upstairs flat so my garden isn't acsessable through the windows or anything.

I was thinking of the bigger picture, really. There may be a welfare issue for the cats here as well as you - 7 in a flat is a lot. Plus they may well be depositing parasites which your ds could pick up.

Otherwise:

sonic repellants
water pistol
kebab skewers poked in the ground where they go (but not good for dc, I know)
big dog

girlandboy · 20/11/2008 13:49

My cousin sorted out a couple of shitty cats! But it's probably not a kind way of doing things.

He coaxed it to him with "here kitty kitty etc" and then squirted it up the bum with some Deep Heat!!

Strangely enough the cats never crossed the boundary again. They give his garden a wide berth! I wonder why

Could this be deemed as cat cruelty??????

PussinJimmyWhoooos · 20/11/2008 13:50

Get a dog...a big mahoosive fecker that is soppy with the kids but a snarling beast at the sight of a mog...

Try the squirty water thing...it won't hurt them and they may learn that they can't have a crap in peace and stop doing it...

Am at 7 cats in a two bed though..

CharleeInChains · 20/11/2008 13:51

Cat poo is dangerous to children in general but even more so to my DS he's got cf and isn't allowed near animal waste. We moved so we could have the garen for him to do physio in the summer and now it's going to be a real struggle.

I can't even shovel it up and dispose of it as the bloomin things have dioreah all the time. (not that i would be happy picking up someone elses animals crap)

I would call the council and the RSPCA.

CharleeInChains · 20/11/2008 13:52

I will hae to make sure it's 7 they are all quite similar looking but i am pretty sure there is at least 7, they are thoses big fluffy ones with the flat faces, he's out there now calling them (plus they have stupid names which just makes it worse!)

CharleeInChains · 20/11/2008 13:53

I would love a dog but i couldn't get a big one we are in a 2 bed flat as well, i can't afford a dog at the moment then and all our shelters have a no toddler policy.

bella29 · 20/11/2008 13:55

Deep breath & call the council. Plus the RSPCA

CharleeInChains · 20/11/2008 13:56

Can the council do anything? Or the RSPCA if they are not being mistreated - he obviously loves them they are spoilt cats.

I will get some of that spikey sstuff for the fences though.

If this is putting your ds' health at risk it is an environmental health issue, surely?

I had a friend who kept 3 dogs in a flat (very very well, believe it or not) and he was forever getting visits fron the RSPCA because people thought that was wrong. He always got a glowing report from the RSPCA anyway.

If these cats are desperate to poo outside they may not have adequate/clean litter trays inside, and also they shouldn't all have diarrhoea!

CharleeInChains · 20/11/2008 14:01

Ok i will call.

PussinJimmyWhoooos · 20/11/2008 14:03

Glad my link was useful

Agree that they shouldn't be having runny poos if looked after!

CharleeInChains · 20/11/2008 14:11

I phoned my housing asociation (sp?) as theyhave always been really good at helping us in in regards to things effecting ds's health and they are going to phone RSPCA on my behalf and see what they can do from thier end.

Hopefully some good somes of it!

bella29 · 20/11/2008 14:12

Yes, I may get some spiky stuff to stop my own cats jumping on the gate and onto the road where they get knocked over

bella29 · 20/11/2008 14:13

x post with Charlee - good! I really hope it gets sorted for you as it is completely unacceptable.

Best of luck

CharleeInChains · 20/11/2008 14:13

I have never had a garden before and i just really want a nice outdiirs space for my boys to play in, i worked my butt off in the summer this year as it was a jungle pit when we moved in, it's nice now just stinky and covered in poo.

OP posts:
Lizzzombie · 20/11/2008 14:19

Oooh, Charlee, I have this same problem. My neighbours have 2 (& feed a stray) cats and I hate finding cat poo (often runny) in my yard. Its gross, vile and stinks.
I heard somewhere that human pee puts them off coming into your garden.
BUT, I am not sure which will be worse, having a yard with cat poo in, or having a yard which smells of human pee.

CharleeInChains · 20/11/2008 14:20

Lol Liz, i should get DP and my boys out there next time they need to pee they can declare war on the damn felines!
