i have two cats....got them december last year so they lived in the christmas tree and played football with the baulbles last christmas....

they are 1 now...and not as playful....and absolutely huge.....they will like to sit and watch the twinkling lights on the tree only this year won't they?...[nods head]

Ha!

Of course they'll just sit there

No, seriously, it depends. Some of my cats do, some don't.

I would recommend plastic and wooden tree decorations, plus some sort of string or wire to anchor the tree to something.

Have a good one

We have two lively 7 month old kittens/cats. And there I was feeling pleased that we no longer have toddlers to strip the Christmas tree....

PinkTulips · 19/11/2008 10:50

my parents cat was alot older than one when she demolished the xmas tree

that said we've had loads of cats since then and they've all been fine.

this year i'm going to have 7 cats in the house for xmas though, one adult, 2 six month olds and 4 6/7 weeks old kittens, my xmas tree may not last until xmas!

ok..its a wait and see thing then...they drove me bonkers last year....even though we did end up taking one of the branches away so it was more comfortable for them to sleep in..they looked so cute!

Fennel..i was the same last year...my youngest twins had just turned 3 so it was the first year they weren't pulling everything off it..and then the kittens arrived!

idobelieveinghosts · 19/11/2008 11:09

i need to change it..it is halloweeny...idobelieveinfairies really!

...my old cat peed in the Xmas tree bucket...and the cats I have now remove all the RED baubles, without fail.
I tend to put "sacricificial" ornaments down low on the tree for them to trash.

idobelieveinghosts · 19/11/2008 13:08

just the red ones miggsie?

They might nor climb it....

ours used to get on the back of the sofa then launch themselves onto the tree from there
then scatter as the tree collapsed and the decorations went everywhere.
all so the little baubles would fall off and then they could chase them round the living room, get them stuck under the sofa, then repeat...

Months later i would be finding baubles hidden away

don't have the small ones anymore because of the DCs and the cats are getting older but we can't leave the living room door open overnight or it will be trashed by the morning.

dp has just made a fair point... i was discussing the liklihood of cats attacking the tree and he said 'you've forgot to include the 2 toddlers in that list of potential tree destroyers'

he's right too, dd isn't too bad although weirdly obsessed with dragging tinsel off the tree but ds is a devil for yanking baubles off and throwing them around the room.

the cats may be the least of my worries!
