More info here

Re the price - lots of things have come down in price recently - houses, used cars, dogs. But not gin sadly

Well put Bella.

I can remember going to a seminar on HD (hip dysplasia) (I know how to have fun ) and seeing the xrays of a working police dog - I'd have said it was impossible for it to walk, but it had built up so much muscle (in the right places with the correct type of exercise) it was fine.

Am well jealous of you going to a hip dysplasia seminar, Marmaduke. Will tag along next time if that's okay

Thanks Bella, think my version was more exciting

This puppy owning business sounds just like having a baby again. Not sure if I'm up to it so borrowing a dog for a week to see how I cope.

I bred lab puppies this summer from our pedigree but non KC registered dog, father was a KC registered dog. We wanted one for ourselves, and already had 3 homes lined up before they were born. There were 7 all told - we sold the boys for £300 and girls for £350 (as always ladies are more expensive) - noone baulked at the price, and apart from one they all went locally and I see them around which is great. Look in your local paper, local country type store (it's Countrywide round us), try the vets. They don't have to come from a professional breeder to be a good dog, and one reared in the home is likely to be used to general household noises and life. Make sure you see them with their mum, and try and see them more than once as they grow. When you do get it (and don't take it if it's under 8 weeks), take it straight to the vet to get it checked out - and ask if you can return it if he's not happy for any reason. If the person is not happy for you to do that (or to take it back if you can't cope) then think again. I interviewed all my buyers and said that I would have any puppy back if there were a recognised medical fault, or if there were difficulties with it at home within a couple of weeks - although you probably wouldn't get your money back. Our puppy is now 6 months, an absolute monkey but very loved, and I love seeing her brothers and sisters about - I get updates every few months! It is a lot of work having a puppy and almost as hard as a baby although the time is quicker (and they don't answer back like children) - but very rewarding. Having said that, I'm not breeding another litter again - cute though they were!
