Dont flame me

If this happen then, we have been incredibly unlucky

Last year Lab had pups, KC reg all planned and wonderful

This year she had her season in sept - about a week or 10 days after she stopped bleeding, she went shooting.

Never thought anything until last night when my mum remarked she looked big and when I squeezed her nipples, milk came out

Went back to 4 weeks ago when she went shooting for the first time and hence the ONLY time she came into contact with any other dogs. DP said she was never really out of his sight for more than a few minutes.

So could she become pregnant? with no locking on and in such a short time?

If she is pregnant she will be 4 weeks so would she be able to have a termintaion?

If she is pregnant the father would either be lab or pointer.....would having the puppies be the end of the world? or in other words would we sell them.

I have an apt at vets at 3pm this afternoon, but am panicking.

Please help xxxx

Your vet should scan your bitch today to see if there are any puppies there. A termination can be carried out up until 40 days. Having puppies wouldn't be the worst thing but then you know how much work is involved.

From what you have said it sounds like she could be having a false pregnancy. As you will be aware a dog and a bitch need to tie during mating and that usually takes 15 minutes or so. If she was within sight of your husband then I think puppies are very unlikely. Let us know how things go at the vet.

oooh, and I don't mean this to sound harsh but when my husband says only a few minutes to me that can often mean quite a lot of minutes!

inscotland
no tie- just spoke to someone else who was on the shoot (owner of lab father of last years puppies) who said she was agressive to the other dogs, wanted nothing to do with them and none of the dogs were out of their owners sight for more than a minute, so def no locking/tie-ing on-

there is no other chance she was caught- so sounds like she is not pregnant, but I cant help taking myself into it and panicking

Sounds like a false pregnancy to me, these are very common, and I think more so once they've had a litter. A feel by the vet would be probably all it takes to find out. Let us know how it goes.

Thats what I am hoping frosty fingers.

they can tie for a very short time. my bitch and the dog (who were deliberately mated) tied for just a couple of minutes and the result was three lovely puppies (with great pedigrees that were v difficult to get rid of in the current economic climate!!)

however it does sound like a false pregnancy is more likely. i guess you need to either wait and see what ocurrs or book her a scan!

good luck

Vet says she cant feel anything...but this is the same vet who felt my nieghbours collie dog and said the same who then went on to have 7 pups so not really trusted iyswim.

Anyway, no scan offered, but bloodtest next week.

Prob me overreacting, as chances are sooooooo slim, so may wait and get her checked by another vet next week

Vet today says its prob a phantom pregnancy

I'd not wait 7 days if you are still concerned. You are too close to the 40 day termination time. It would be like aborting 30 week baby.

lilymolly · 13/11/2008 17:58

No she is only 25 days today (if she is pregnant) blood test can only been done at 30 days hence why I must wait until next week.

After a days calm thinking, I am pretty sure she is not pregnant, another week will confirm and if she is, then the termination injection can be taken up till 45 days which I know is not ideal but we would do it well before then.

Rather get rid of foetues, than have to home puppies with no pedigree esp when they may be crosses.
