Adopting a dog is not as easy as i thought

I understand the rules, but am wondering when we will find 'the' dog, that can actually be allowed to be rehomed to us, and thats before we even find it compatible!

I am dipping my toe in atm. Strays aren't allowed ot be rehomed withyou if you have a cat, full stop. Most dogs, wether they have come from another home or are stray cannot be homed with families who have kids under ten.

One dog i saw and loved, today, has come form my area (v small town) and it's the place's policy not to let a dog go back to a town/area/suburb that is came from.

These animal places are miles form eachother, i have 3 that are about 30 miles form me in each direction. This is going to be one adventure i can see!!

Are you just looking at RSPCA & CDL? You might find some independent shelters are slightly less rigorous. We got our dog from a place in Kent which took stray dogs on which would be put down otherwise as the bigger shelters didn't have space.

However, espec with kids under 10 you (and they) need to be careful if there is no proof the dog can cope with them.

Have looked at only 3 independent ones so far. Haven't been to the RSPCA one as it's about 45 miles away.

I know they want to be sure, of course. I guess i shall just have to keep looking and trying. I really liked the doggy today. !4 weeks old whippet/lurcher, not the sort of dog i would have really seen in real life, or been around. Yet he was the sweetest thing. my dd wuold have loved him.

ahhh, he sounds lovely. Personally I think I'd be happier getting a young trainable one of an appropriate breed/size than an older "unknown quantity" one with young children.

Your dog is out there somewhere!

If you like the sort of whippet/lurcher breeds have you tried emailing any of the rescue centres for them?

good idea. i need to widen my search. Thing is i only went in there looking for cats, but that section was closed lol.

Have you thought of a greyhound. I got one from retired greyhound trust and they're very good with kids, some good with cats. Don't need much exercise.

Try greyhound gap website.

Or here for lurchers.
