New Cat with Existing Cats

Rolacola · 08/11/2008 14:26

I have 2 cats (sibling males) who are 1, and tomorrow I am getting another 1 year old. (another male)

Does anyone have experience of integrating a new cat, and reducing the chances of nuclear fall out!!?

do not do it in an enclosed space, and pay extra attention to existing cats, also give treats when pleasantness is shown.as long as your cats arent normally mean you should be fine

I would keep an eye on them to startwith, never leaving them slone s they might fight.

Start by inroducing the smell of new cat to other cats. and visa vera.

I would put a blanket where ever they sleep and then give blanket to new cat.

Then give them a new blanket for a night or so then swap the blankets around and that gets them used to the smellof each other.

It can take a few weeks for them to get like each oter but perserve and they will all eventually get along fine.

I have 3 males. Male cats (neutered) actually form a stronger group than females. Mine hissed a bit in the beginning but they play, groom and sleep together now.

I recommend feliway spray (there is one just for introducing new cats, think it is feliway friend, and the feliway plug in helps too, keeps them as calm as possible..

provide 4 litter trays, I have 2 upstairs and 2 down. (one each plus one more is the norm).
Plenty of beds in hideaway places (i made temporary ones using spare cushions and pillows on windowsills, so they can get up high away from each other.

How did the intro go?

Thanks everyone.

Well, the new cat is just hilarious. So friendly, and keen to make friends. But the other 2 are not impressed! A bit of hissing and one little swipe.

I think the new one is quite young; under 1 I think. He has his own room with bed and litter tray; the other 2 can go out, and have their own space. I just need to be careful the new one doesn't accidentally get out.

I think they'll get along soon; I suppose it'll take time.

My new one has his own room too, only at night though. other 2 come and go as they please.
After my new one is neutered and a bit bigger, he will have free run too.

it will work, just give it time, about 1-2 weeks and they should be like old mates!

They will be fine.

I have 2 house cats and a feral one who lived in the shed.

Since I got the 2nd house cat the feral one has decided to stay in? Hissing at the other cats but she plays sometimes.

Catnip does wonders in adult cats.

Pussy-cats stoned! Don't worry they will get along fine, I am sure.

I can 2nd the catnip. When all cats are together, sprinkle the catnip near some cat toys and hopefully they will bond whilst out of it

Thanks every one
