They're still going on here, my dog is whining next to me, don't want to go to bed yet and leave him on his own, but I think I better as we're getting a puppy tomorrow so I'll be in for a few restless nights. I brought a DAP diffuser for my dog this year which I think has made him slightly calmer, it should help settle the puppy in too. Hope your JRT settles soon.

Oh I have enough now. Hate fireworks because of the effect on animals. It is cruel and needless.

Have written yet again to bloody parliament. Stupid ignoramus lot that they are.

My poor dog is suffering.

She has refused to go out in the garden in the dark for the last week and I have had to resort to puppy training pads in the kitchen to save my carpets.

Poor little thing is bloody terrified and the fireworks are sure to go over the weekends then a short respite till all the christmas ones start. [sigh emoticon]

I am sure when I was a child fireworks only went on for a few days and only on 5th November.

I turned the tv in the LR up really loud and also the one in the kitchen to drown out the noise. Even resorted to bathing the dog to take his mind off what was going on outside, didn't think it would work as well as it did.

It's not only the noise and stress they cause though, it's all the rubbish they create. This morning I did a quick scan over the garden to check for rocket sticks couldn't see any, but 2 mins after letting dog he came bounding back with a rocket stick.

There should be a ban on selling fireworks to individuals and just do organized displays and if you live where there is an organized display happening at least you can take your dog somewhere else and be assured that they are not going to get stressed out.

Ranty rant rant ... there I feel better.

LittleB - we tried the DAP but without success, apart from that, the vet suggested valium although I though that a little harsh! They are still going off tonight luckily have distracted him with parma ham bone. Agree, should onlly be on a few set days or as I saw on tv - silent ones!

My big dog almost seemed to be having a panic attack the other night

Then last night I took both dogs out when the kids and I went out to look at fireworks, and it actually helped!!! I was worried I was being cruel, but going for a walk seemed to distract her. She went for a run off lead just before we got back home, and when we got in the house, the dog was fine

I wonder if being enclosed in the house, makes it worse...?

sazzerbear · 06/11/2008 20:36

I think you may have a point purpleduck, the fireworks seem to be even worse tonight and he's weed up the kitchen table leg and pood on the floor, I can't take much more aaagh...!

I took smartie out on her lead in the garden for about 20 mins this evening while there were a few going off in the distance but to no avail. She still refused to perform and then peed on the stairs when she came back in.

sazzerbear I feel your pain and will join you in a loud AGHHHHHH!

Glad I'm not the only one who feels like this, jellyshoes!

Hope it all quietens down soon

Just to top off the night, he puked all over the LR floor! At least he didn't wake ds up though. Do you think Medised works on dogs as well? lol

Well my DH sorted her out. Came home on Friday night (he works away during the week) Took her straight out in the garden and distracted her by playing. He then took her outside everytime we could hear fireworks going off (some were very close)and after a few hours she was totally chilled about it. Went outside no worries before we went to bed.
