We have 2 cats of a year old. They were trained using a litter tray. We took the tray away when they were allowed outside, and have fitted a cat flap which they both use happily. However one of them has started weeing in the house. She started by doing it in the bath, but we noticed she's been using the board the DS'S use for their model railway. She also wees on magazines left on the floor.

It's relatively new behaviour, but I want to nip it in the bud before it becomes a habit.

Any ideas of how to stop it?

TIA

To get rid of the smell, dilute bio washing powder in hot water and wash urine area. then use surgical spirit to remove the fatty traces that are left.
if you use normal cleaner it will leave an ammonia smell there which will attract cat to pee there.

try leaving asmall plate of cat biscuits/dry food in the areas where she pees, they will not pee near food

She may also have a urine infection that is causing it.
Can you give her back a litter box?

Our cats have a flap but at night we lock them in so they do use the tray. But one of them has recently peed on our bed at night, and on a pile of clothes DD left on her bedroom floor - there's lots of mewing and kneading with claws and then you notice the damp patch... She's only 18 months old and usually very good, so we, like you, are rather concerned. I don't want to have to lock them in the back of the house at night but cat pee is so foul to remove.

It could be there is another cat bullying it outside at night.

Macdog- the urine infection is possible. I will make an appointment at the vets. Thanks for the cleaning tips.

Erm, I think she may wee through the day, and wonder I could lock them out during the day.

Different- she doesn't get on with next doors cat so that could be part of the problem.

Thanks for your help

One (or maybe both) of our kittens has started doing this over the weekend - in their bed! i first thought someone had spilled water on the floor and it had soaked through but the cushion was sodden this morning.

Mine also have been going outside happily for several weeks - think it has happened during the day too so not necessarily a strange cat outside...

Will try moving their food to near the bed and see if that helps...
