which kitten food?

our kittens have been on felix kitten pouches since we got them but they have stinky bums.we tried a couple of dry foods and whiskers kitten but they werent keen.so do i just put up with stinky bums?

just stick with the felix - my vet says its fine

I use felix for my 13 week old kitten and he isn't stinky at all, I give him a mix of dried food though - James Wellbeloved. When you say stinky bum do you mean his poos in the litter tray?

My cats never seem to like whiskas, didn't know it had high salt though.

i tried that james wellboloved they didnt like it.i want to stick with felix as they like it but im woried thats whats making them smelly cats.

no i dont mind smelly poo so much but their bums smell.

How old are they? We found our latest couldn't really handle Whiskas or Felix and we got some dried stuff called James Wellbeloved or Wilberforce (sorry can't remember, and can't find an old packet). She was fine on that for the first few weeks we had her, and gradually went on to normal food as she increasingly scrounged from our other cats' bowls.

I used to feed my kitten on Go-Cat dry kitten food soaked in water, then gradually reduced the water in it till I fed completely dry food

I'm sure I read something about kittens bums smelling on here a few weeks ago. Shall go search 'kittens bums smelling'

Or you could try Science Diet.

Softening it in water sounds a very good idea, I may try that too - apparently getting them on dry food is much better for their teeth and gums, and dental ops for cats are expensive!

Science Diet is a cat food (they do dog food too) which you can buy from the vet. Our vet used to recommend it but they've recently decided that Purina is their food of choice.

Two of my cats lived exclusively on Science Diet - one lived to 18, died a couple of years ago. The other one is the aforementioned old lady who is now 16, but eats Felix now as dh didn't like his cat only having SD (until we married dh's cat had had those really expensive exclusive gourmet type things).

Can I ask a really personal question here, please?

How close do you get to your kittens bums before you can smell them?

lol well its when i put my nose up their bottoms.is that not normal?

no you can smell it if they sit on your lap or beside you.-why can you smell it from where you are?

Our cats have felix - they turn their noses up at everything else (even tuna and prawns - strange buggers!!)

Are they perhaps stepping or brushing against poo when they're in their litter tray? Ahving said that one of my daft wee buggers still misses the sodding tray after 4 years. Oh well
