Hi, i have a 6mth old baby and we can't seem to stop our 1 yr old cat from sleeping in his cot. She def knows that she isn't allowed in as she now jumps out as soon as you open the door. We have tried just keeping the bedroom door shut, but can't have it shut when baby asleep in bed. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, getting to the end of our tether!

Why cantt you keep the door shut if you have a baby monitor?
I got rid of my cat for this reason.
WEnt to a good home.

Cat net?

azkat · 09/10/2008 22:33

Might need to get a monitor and shut the door. Have just put him in his own room (sharing with his brother) so wanted to be able to hear him if he woke asap. Can i put a cat net on when baby is in cot? Cat does get put outside but i feel a bit mean locking her out all night when its cold!

They hate citrus so you could try leaving orange peel in the doorway or maybe putting orange essential oil on a tissue and leaving it near the cot.

We used a cat net on both the pram (when DS was having a nap) and his cot. The main reason for not shutting the door was that it was hot and stuffy and we needed a breeze blowing through (iykwIm). No problems at all.
DS now actively encourages the cats to sleep on his bed.

We have a canopy type net a bit like a mozzie net but are in Australia so not sure if you can one where you are (www.belly2baby.com.au/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=15 0&categoryid=45&manufacturerid=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=27&vmcchk=1&Itemid=27). It has a zip opening but we tie it at one end and lift up the other end as we find it easier (securing lifted end on a hook on the wall when it is up). We also found it good for covering the cot to shut out more light when it is particularly bright and LO is supposed to be sleeping.
Other than that I know the NCT does elasticated pram & cot nets (www.nctsales.co.uk/prodshow.asp?id=351&cat=0&scat=0&parent=) which would be a bit fiddly to put on & we were concerned the cat may still try to jump up whereas with the canopy they can see they've got no chance! You should be able to find something online if you search for something like "cot net"
