No.
He is too pongy and too licky.
He isn't allowed upstairs.

Neither is the dog.

imananny · 25/09/2008 15:34

muffinmclay - your friend runs a school which tells owners to let dogs sleep with them?

give them a soft furry pillow/cushion and a cuddly if they are lonely

theultimatethreadkiller · 25/09/2008 15:43

MuffinMclay - our dining room is now the dogs' room

forevercleaning · 25/09/2008 15:47

I would if the cat was not sleeping there first, they dont get on.

Lauriefairycake · 25/09/2008 15:49

No, it's not good for the dog and his place in the pack to share a bed with the alpha pair. Our dog sleeps beside the bed or in the corridor outside the room.

sullysmum · 25/09/2008 16:02

I have 3 little chihuahuas and the youngest does sleep with hubby and me.

Combustiblelemon · 25/09/2008 16:10

No. The dogs live downstairs, on hard flooring that is easily cleaned. It's easier on allergies. They do have a (washable) rug in every room to lie on though, so they don't get bald 'elbows' and bean bag type beds of their own .

DustyTv · 25/09/2008 16:32

No, both of my dogs have baskets in our room, but they are in last chance saloon at the mo.

They have been quite naughty recently. We had to buy new bedding (everything from quilt and covers to fitted sheets etc) cos one of our dogs got upstairs over the weekend and peed on our bed . Luckily we had a matress protector on there so the matress was okay.

They have been peing and pooing all over but outside recently. I don't know what is wrong with them.

We are getting them a kennel for them to go outside in the day and the baskets will be put in the kitchen for night time.

SpandexIsMyEnemy · 25/09/2008 17:07

laurie that's where my sheppard usually sleeps, (on my side) the staffy likes to sleep on my feet, until I have enough & kick her off, when she sulks!

RTKangaMummy · 25/09/2008 17:18

The behaviour bloke from DOG BORSTAL was there {on TV THIS MORNING} and he had some interesting things to say about problems with dogs now as upposed to 20 years ago

was that the lines of PACK rules have blurred and dogs are not seen as lower down pack than people

And whatever we think of dogs they will only be able to behave like a dog so we shouldn't treat them like children or people

Always keep the dogs as lower in pack order than you or your family

Dusty - one of the reasons (according to the dog whisperer) is because they have been allowed on the bed. He weed on the bed because you weren't there. It's an anxiety thing - and a status thing. If a dog is on the bed (and secondly the sofa) then he thinks he is of equal status to you so when you go out he expects to go with you.

When you go out without him it throws him into a state of anxiety hence the weeing.

I heart the dog whisperer

It's all about letting the dog have his position in the pack but him knowing what that is so he doesn't assume a higher position. Things a dog shouldn't be allowed to do: greet visitors, sleep with the top person or pair, eat first

Lauriefairycake · 25/09/2008 17:22

spandex of course she sulks, she thinks she is of equal value to you and the shepherd thinks he is your mate

SpandexIsMyEnemy · 25/09/2008 17:36

you know that's interesting, not once have my two peed on the bed - and odd as this is going to sound, but I absolutely detest it when someone allows their dog to sleep in the bed (mine lay on top yes but NEVER inside it, on the sheet.)

I have caught the little moo on the sofa thou - the Sheppard doesn't get up - they know that if the duvet's (they have their own duvet on the floor where they both usually snooze when it's out) but if it goes on the sofa (extremely rarely) then they'll both get on the sofa, but as I say have caught the little moo on the chair when I went out and come back in again. - time for them to be confined to the kitchen/conservatory again I think, (have been letting them have the additional front room to have a bit of extra space)

sullysmum · 25/09/2008 17:51

Mine has never wet the bed and sleeps in a snuggle bag on the top between us.

Lauriefairycake · 25/09/2008 18:18

what happens when you shag? does doggie go off the bed willingly?

hollyandnoah · 26/09/2008 11:18

One of my dogs snore way way too much to be let in the bedroom and it wouldn't e fair if i let the other two in. They have a big pillow they share in the hall and have run of the hall and kitchen.
Don't know how much i could handle them all in my bed, probably wouldn't be able to move!

ahundredtimes · 26/09/2008 11:19

No, but he sleeps on dd's bed. Much to their mutual delight.

sullysmum · 26/09/2008 15:41

Lauriefairycake, lol, i just put them in their other beds in the lounge. And when we spoon sleep Fynn and her snuggle bag gets moved to outside of myside of the bed.

twoluvlykids · 26/09/2008 15:53

nonononono. fleas, hair, dog breath, fidgeting.

the dog would be a pain too.....

falcon · 26/09/2008 18:35

Yes I do, though she's just a Tibetan Spaniel with 4 teeth so I suppose there's always a possibility of being sucked to death.

choccynutter · 28/09/2008 22:22

we have 2 great big rotties so somehow i think if they slep on our bed we would be forced out so no defo not our cats do sometimes but i useally shoo them cos they purrrr right in my ear

ILiveInPortBlacksand · 28/09/2008 22:30

Usually next to the bed on his beanbag. In our bed on a cold night (he is an old man). Also - in our double sleeping bag with us in caravan, again if it's cold.

higgle · 06/11/2008 17:02

My first dog slept with me but when we got maried DH didn't like her staring at him all the time so we sent her packing downstairs (no problem) best solution is family and doggy lie in on Sundays only, Bliss!

GrimmaTheNome · 06/11/2008 17:09

Our dog sleeps in his (open) crate in the kitchen. But in the morning he bounds up the stairs and onto the bed for a cuddle. He's a very clean, short-haired dachshund (at times I think he's cleaner than my DD and I let her in my bed). Recently, to DHs horror, the dog has begun going head first under the cover leaving his bum out. Well he is bred for tunnelling. I'd be horrified at most dogs getting into the bed but he really is very unmucky and unsmelly (and well-wormed, of course).
