How old are puppies when they stop peeing all over floor - even if just been outside for wee?

Do you rub noses in wee/tell them off etc?

Helllllllllllllllllllllp please

thats the weird thing
Thanks mutt

we do all of the above(great advise - thank you) - ie take out in garden every 30mins - we say do a wee, and he does he then comes in and wees 10mins later over floor

he has a huge crate, with soft pillow etc, and yes sleeps in it all night, doesnt cry and doesnt wee in it, so obv can hold in wee 7/8hrs no problem, just seems to be in the day

i know he is only little - is 14weeks old - but what age do they stop having accidents?

I dont understand why he does huge wees outside, yet will then wee inside as well

we do wash the floor - thankfully wooden floors and not carpets, and have a specail deordiser spray ,which we do spray

guess he is only little, just seems weird he can hold wee all night, pee outside no probs, yet still wees in house

My (lab) pup has been more or less 100% since he was 3 months old, and I know some of the other recent puppies on MN have got it even quicker, so don't despair!

I think it's important, as mutt says, to be ready to jump & put them outside as soon as they're thinking of doing something, but do it without a lot of fuss as otherwise you can be unintentionally rewarding them (with attention) for weeing inside.

I've also carried little treats with me outside for when pup does it in the right place, and this has been so effective my 10 yr old dog has also learned to wee on command, something she couldn't do before!

If he has done a wee outside & then comes in I would also make sure he has a toy or something to occupy him when he comes in, as the second wee he does inside sounds more like a behavioural issue, rather than actually needing to urinate.

HTH!

imananny · 25/09/2008 10:55

oh god - we have a dog with behavioural issues

will keep doing what we have been doing

i dont mind the odd wee, it happened - iykwim - but seems to be a few most days

grrrrrrrrrrrr

i have managed to potty train many children in less time, though guess they are considerbly older than 14weeks when i do

No - I didn't mean that!!!!

I just meant that it sounds like he's not doing it out of necessity, but to mark his space/ get attention etc.

Am sure he will get it soon!

imananny · 25/09/2008 11:37

oh i see

well he does get a lot of attention - i LOVE him - and mb/db and children do as well

he is only little, sure he will improve - guess its kinda weird for him to be away from hismum and siblings etc

thnak god for that - he must be puppy potty trained now

bella29 · 30/09/2008 20:07

Congrats - amazing how much joy a day free of mopping up wee can bring, isn't it

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/10/2008 16:27

oh yes bella

was only 3 weeks of peeing on floors, but felt like a lifetime

I was out this am from 8.30 to 1.30 and no wees on floor

bella29 · 01/10/2008 18:07

You're on a roll now, Blondie

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/10/2008 14:17

feel so proud bella

beats potty training children

and when i let him outside, i say do wee wee and he does

Nicky1313 · 02/10/2008 14:28

We have a puppy who is 4 months old, is now house trained but when she is told off or you raise voice to her to tell her off she wets herself! It getting a bit of a nightmare, she does it when you just talking to her if she thinks she going to get told off? Any suggestions what to do?

bella29 · 02/10/2008 17:44

Nicky - does she roll on her back when she does it? That's called submissive urination, when they are showing that they are so far below you they will wet themselves.

In any case, I would try ignoring her rather than telling her off when she does something wrong - withdrawing your attention (eg by leaving the room) is still a punishment, especially if the dog is of a more timid nature, which it sounds as if she is. Some dogs just can't take being told off verbally

Good luck, and Blondie - how do I get my ds (6) and dd (4) to stay in their beds at bedtime

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/10/2008 21:38

if they get out of bed, just take them back again, and again, and again - just like supernanny does

its tedious, but you will get results

bella29 · 02/10/2008 22:22

Thanks - will try that

Dogs are much easier in my opinion!!!!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/10/2008 22:56

hmmmmmmmmmmm

think i prefer children
