Cat invading our house to spray and steal food

At my wits end. We have a lovely cat who exits the house via a cat flap in the back door. The problem is that a local tom routinely comes in the cat flap, eats all our cat's food and pisses everywhere! It even goes so far as to get up on the work surface and piss on the toaster! The whole kitchen stinks and whatever I do I can't seem to get rid of it. Our neighbours seem to have the same problem despite having an electronic cat flap activated by their cat's collar - the invader seems to have found a way to get around it. I'm on the verge of hiring someone to lay in wait, trap it then castrate it. Does anyone have any less drastic suggestions? Really don't want to have to lock our cat in all the time mainly because he wakes is in the night demanding to be let out.

we have the same problem. considering borrowing my mates dog for a day or two whilst our cat goes to a cattery.
cat piss is truly the most rancid stench, you have my sympathy.

hmmmm I would def consider locking the catflap for a few days just to try and deter him. might be enough to put him off coming again if he thinks he can't get in?

my other suggestion was going to be the electronic catflap, but maybe not if your neihgbours doesn't work

Have tried doing that Thisis but he's put off for a few days then back with a vengeance. So angry that the owners haven't castrated him - he's a complete menace and coming down everyone morning to a freshly piddled on kitchen after being up all night with DS is a real nightmare. May look into hiring someone to catch him. The neighbour is also up for it.

we had the same problem - mangy looking cat I phoned the cat rescue and managed to trap him (at their advice) - I have children and really couldn't cope with him spraying on my toaster, kettle and everywhere else - I shut the cat flap (locked my cat in somewhere else) and alas came back one day to find him in the kitchen - trapped him and took him to cat rescue who no doubt found him a responsible home once he'd been spayed.

Leogirl, how did you shut catflap once he was in? I would have to creep around him to get to it unless I move the food. He's also crafty as hell - you never hear him come in, only leaving when he's not so careful about being quiet, having polished off all the food and pissed everywhere.

i would suggest staying up armed with a water pistol

you have to be a bit mean sometimes

just make sure you get the right cat

thanks all. Ruby, do you think the RSPCA will really help? I think it wears a collar so presumably isn't a stray. Can the RSPCA require the owners to castrate it if it's being a nuisance to everyone?

we had a simler problem few years ago we did the water thing ... super soakers are great we eventally found out who it belong to and they did have it done so it may be worth trying to find out who the owner is if it wears a cooar maybe u could wrap a small note round its collor with ur number or something but till then water away ... litrally
